I know we’ve discussed this ad nauseum, but with the so-called alliance between the PAC-12, BIG and ACC, and the announcement of possibly expanding the Big 12, it’s time to reopen the can of worms. First, I vote that the conference expand to 12 teams, to include BYU, Houston, Cinncy and Central Florida. Second, would such a conference be considered a power conference?

Honestly, I don’t see it. There would be a power 4 with a fringe 5 being the big 12. At least in the eyes of the committee. Would hurt ISU and other original members regarding playoff hopes especially and possibly NY6 bowls. Best case scenario for ISU is big10 with Kansas, ideally in a pod with iowa and nebraska. Followed by pac 12, followed by staying in the big 12, followed by American. I think it’s less likely that the latter happens. But honestly anything could happen

The best way for an expanded Big 12 to remain a power conference would be to schedule non conference games with power conference teams and win our share. But I don’t know if the other conferences would want to have anything to do with the Big 12.

I do believe that an expanded Big 12 could be competitive with the PAC 12 and ACC. Maybe not with the BIG and SEC.

Reopen the can of worms? I think there are dozens of this exact can of worms that have been opened just sitting around CF already.

I don't really care to be with Directional Florida Tech or City Commuter University as much as the next guy, but college sports are already pretty much ruined so to me the #1 goal in Big 12 expansion should be to be as spiteful as humanly possible to the ACC and especially the Pac 12.

I like the level of talent that a UCF could siphon off from every ACC team not named Clemson, FSU, or Miami.

But now we need to go after the Pac and make them even less competitive than they already are. This is where I really think San Diego State could get 25 recruits every year that have offers from the likes of Washington St, Oregon St, Utah, Arizona, and Colorado.

I've followed these threads intently since the get go, but have now decided to step back and take a breather for these reasons:
- ad-nauseum rinse / repeat ideas
- there's no logic to the B12 rushing
- there's no logic to the B12 revealing their progress or intent
- above 2 for ISU reps too
- we have very good leaders in this
- tired of ***** and stitch
- 95% opinions, 5% facts or numerical justifications (thank you so much to you guys)
- Completely have run out of unique ideas

Now that I have an idea of the quality posters, I'll check back periodically for their input. Enjoy your tea.

Yes. People are forgetting about how weak the ACC is besides Clemson. If those 4 do join the Big 12 I would take the top teams in the Big 12 over the top teams in the Pac 12.

Randy Peterson opines that Memphis would be a good addition because the corporate headquarters of FedEx is located there. And, he says, having a corporate heavyweight as a partner would benefit the Big 12. How would that work, exactly?

First, you have to realize that most of the time, Randy has no idea what he's talking about. Once you get to that point, you'll know better than to postulate whatever he's throwing against the wall.

Hopefully, at that point in time you'll also know better than to beat a dead horse by opening the 5,000th thread on the same issue and add to one of the other 4,999 threads on the subject.

I won’t believe anything until it happens. Big 12 could expand I guess, or it could all be for show to negotiate an quicker exit settlement for OuT. Then we can move to a better, more stable and profitable situation. I don’t think anyone can say for sure yet.

It could have a big effect on NIL as well as on advertising.

Worst case, the alliance is blackballing the B12 in order to eliminate 8 teams from playoff and BCS considerations. If they are actually waiting for the OuT payoff, why don’t they explain that? We may have become untouchables. If we must fend for ourselves, I like the 16 team idea with SDst, BYU, CSU, BSU in west pod; ISU, OSU, KSU, KU in the Big8 pod; TTU, UH, BU, TCU in the SW pod; and Wvu, Cinc, UCF, Memphis in the East pod. That gives us all 4 time zones, a good chance at major media coverage, and scheduling independence. Sure , it is a large pie, but it gives us National exposure, stability, and a new perspective. With the revenue cutback, we would probably need to discontinue some ISU sports and also end the Cyhawk series, because of the financial disparity between the 2 schools. Seeing the glass half empty, this is a worst case scenario, but there are few positive indications right now.
