If you have seen any of my posts about this in the past, you know this isn't just a reaction to yesterday. We need to stop playing Iowa every year if we are ever going to have the profile of this program be raised. IMO it's unrealistic and naive to think playing this game every year will result in a program that has the ability improve.

In my lifetime, there are essentially 3 programs in the Big 12 that elevated themselves from the absolute dregs of the league - KSU, BU, and KU (for a short time). These teams all played different styles, occured in slightly different eras, and had different coaching philosophies driving them.

The #1 correlation between all of these programs is that they scheduled cupcakes in their noncon. Not only cupcakes, but the cupcakiest cupcakes that every cupcaked. When Snyder came back to KSU for Round 2, he schedule TWO FCS teams his first year back.

This program needs positive energy. It needs to learn how to win.

"WELL THEY SHOULD ALWAYS BEAT UNI!"
"THE STATE LOVES THIS RIVALRY GAME!"

I agree. The problem is that they DON'T always beat UNI. In fact we are batting a ridiculous .500 against them in recent memory.

Batting .500 against Iowa is likely the best we could ever realistically hope for over the long haul.

Matt Campbell talked about wanting to make ISU the Midwest destination for the Big 12. If you were a decent Iowa high school product with an offer from both ISU and Iowa, why would you every consider going to ISU after watching beatdowns like Saturday?

Yes, the Iowa/ISU game has been fun in the past. However, if I had the choice, I'd rather be 2-0 vs. Rhode Island and Arkansas State with San Jose State on the horizon than 0-2 and the only real interesting thing until next year revolving around if Park will unseat Lanning and if we can possibly hang on to this recruiting class.

soooo, just to be clear, you want to take away the one game a year most everyone in the state looks forward to...that generates a ****-ton of revenue for each school and that we've won more than lost in the last couple of decades? Have you thought about applying for AD?

Can't happen. The game is a major state tradition like RAGBRAI since we answered the 15 game skid with a five game streak of our own.

Spend your energy campaigning to go back to a four game non conference schedule.

I'm guessing aside from ku that Iowa is our best winning % in recent history. I have a hard time agreeing with those who are scared to play a team were routinely pretty competitive with. It's the same with the hawk fans who claim it's a lose-lose game for them, they're just making up excuses so they don't have to admit they can't handle losing to a rival.

Iowa is not Oklahoma or Ohio State or even many of the SEC teams. They are average and once every 10 years they will have a decent team. It is about our only rival left so we will continue to play them. There is no reason for that outcome to happen like it did Saturday, but CMC has a lot of work ahead the next few years to build a team to compete every week.

You want to get rid of one of our easiest games each year? Iowa is really good this year, but this is not a normal year. The Big 12 is also way down so our schedule as a whole is a lot easier than it has been recently.

Seeing as we have had trouble beating team from the MAC/FCS/etc I am not sure who you want us to schedule - Morningside? Grand View?

Iowa isn't the problem, we have a decent record against them in recent history. The problem is not taking business with our other two non-con games, Kansas, Kansas State, etc.

It's a fun game...let's not run away from it like a bunch of Sallies.

Kansas State has been really good under Snyder, not sure they belong in that conversation

Good point. I was more thinking along the lines of the conference this year.

The point still stands that if we want to move up in our conference, we need to beat that next level of teams above us and Kansas. We haven't been able to do that on a consistent basis.

Not to mention this game comes down to the 4th quarter 9 times out of 10, and since the turn of the century, Iowa holds a 9-8 advantage. If we were getting our ass kicked year in and year out I would be fine getting rid of this game, but we're not, and getting rid of a decent FBS opponent that we have a decent shot to beat each year would be by far the dumbest thing we could do.
