We can be mad about the call (and should be), we can be mad about the 'non-apology' (and should be) but another conference isn't going to fix this. The 4 major conferences all have their favorites - this isn't just a Big XII thing.

Time to suck it up and beat the snot out our next opponents.

You know that there were 12 people in a room looking for any excuse to agree with the call... Can see it now.

"Gee, sure looks like a fumble to me."
"Maybe, but can you actually see that he isn't actually down."
"Well, if I look at it and squint, he kinda looks down. And there is that belt loop that seems to be in the way of a completely clear picture."
"Exactly. The only way we could really call him down was if he was the only player in the area so we could definitively see if he was down or not. All these other guys, and the glare from the jumbotron, makes it impossible to tell for certain."
"You know I think you're right... That and they played Sweet Caroline between the 3rd and 4th quarters. They are clearly asking for it."
"Great, draft if up and send it over to Dodds and Brown for approval before you send it out."
"Great work everyone. Dodged another bullet there. Was looking like another perfect storm of terrible officiating in Ames."

Michigan and OSU don't get this kind of knob slobbing like Texas does. Same for LSU and Bama or Oregon and USC.

KU isn't tu though. They want to protect KU in bball, but they know the big money is in football. Plus, have to be able to hype next week's game vs. OU vs. have it sound like they should have lost this one.

This. Hurting KU Bball is like ripping off a 7-11 or a Taco Bell. Hurting TU football is like robbing Fort Knox.

lulz@this head-in-the-sand conference. Everyone knows exactly what happened last night, so this "statement" does nothing but make them look foolish and incompetent.

I don't have a problem that the Big 12 office has a favorite team. I have a problem that it has a least favorite team.

You know, the Big 12 office could just shut up. But no. What happens (and what is allowed to happen) on the field is bad enough. Then they have to come out with ridiculous and bizarre statements defending what is allowed to happen on the field.

Maybe Rhoads shouldn't have lifted Tribune's redshirt....just a thought. Still ****** about that no-fumble call, but those PI calls really hurt down the stretch. You would think Stokes, Rogers, the other SR, ANYONE other than the true freshman would be going up against a future NFL WR. Not blaming Tribune at all, I would have held on to his shirt tails all day too.

I especially like the line where he wrote that George EVENTUALLY ended up with the ball.

Nice spin, ****.

Below is a statement Big 12 Supervisor of Football Officials Walt Anderson in regards to the Texas vs. Iowa State football game from Thursday night.

“In accordance with Big 12 Conference protocol I have reviewed several plays from last night’s Texas at Iowa State football game. Those plays include the personal foul penalty called in the endzone against Texas wide receiver Mike Davis, and the goal line play late in the game.

The ruling made on the goal line play was that the runner was down by rule with the ball. Because of that ruling, instant replay is allowed to review the play, which it did. Had the ruling on the field been forward progress, the play would not be reviewable because the goal line was not involved. The Replay Official looked at all five views available for this play: Line Feed, Goal Line cart, Press Box angle, Sky Cam, and Opposite End Zone camera. He correctly determined there was no indisputable video evidence to confirm that either the ruling on the field was correct, or that the ball was loose prior to the runner being down. By rule when there is not indisputable video evidence to confirm or change the call on the field, the ruling stands.

On this play, the covering official ruled the runner was down and still had control of the ball. There is no question the runner ends up on the ground, and there is no question that eventually an Iowa State player ends up with the ball. However, after reviewing the video evidence it is impossible to tell with certainty when the runner loses control of the ball and at that point was he down or not.

The conference would acknowledge in this unique situation if a mistake were made, but we do not have the video evidence to prove that one occurred.

The play involving Mr. Davis is being addressed in accord with the Conference’s Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Policy."

All of the above is from Ames Tribune

I can't help but read that statement like the Matthew McConaughey closing argument in A Time to Kill.

"... now imagine the team recovering the ball is Texas."

Close your eyes. Imagine what was happening.

His jersey not even long enough to cover his own midsection. Covered in his sweat. Covered in his blood. Gasping with the effort from playing a complete Big 12 football game, winded from tackling huge truck-sized running backs with the maneuverability of a Porsche two-seater, exhausted from covering NFL-caliber tight ends and wide receivers all night long.

Close your eyes and imagine.

He's carrying a football. Running up the field, nobody else there but himself, the freshly cut grass, the warm Indian summer air, the smell of smoke from thousands of tiny grills. Carrying the football away from the pile behind him of overgrown, overmuscled twenty-something kids who have no idea the ball is no longer in their midst. There is nothing standing between him and the siren-like call of the endzone and victory for his team.

Can you see him? Can you?

Now imagine he plays for Texas. Thank you.

Whats the point of issuing a statement that says "yeah we were right"? That would be like them reviewing it twice durring the game. And why bring up the mike davis thing if nothing has been determined yet?

For the Mike Davis thing, you bring it up so they stop bugging you, or don't get started bugging you. Then they can forget all about it, and we don't remember anymore.
