I hate spiders. But also know they get rid of ton of other insects and are good for a lot of reasons. I just don’t like them in the house.

What are solutions that actually work to keep them at bay as much as possible from being in the house and parts of the yard?

We have tried local pest control and it was fine but just expensive. Are there brands or products like Ortho that you swear by? What about peppermint oils etc as I’ve seen some say that might work.

We also need it to be pet friendly.

Thanks!

Ive always had decent results with Ortho Home Defense Max. Plus it’s cheap. Ive only used it indoors/garage, so can’t speak on how well it works ourdoors.
Thanks. Was looking at this option if nothing else to spray around the outside of the entire house and foundation etc.

Costco used to sell it, extremely effective in my experience. And it lasts a while, like a barrier.

The other thing I do 2-3x a year is spray bifenthrin (Sevin) around the foundation of the house. Do it early spring, and then every 60-90 days until winter. Keeps all the bugs out, and no bugs means no spiders following them in or thriving inside.

Not sure but I am curious about how many spiders you have swallowed this year.

We have one. Just plays with them. Never kills them or eats them.

mostly likely torturing the spider
My cat is only an ******* to humans. She plays with bugs and spiders, but never kills them.

Last fall, she scooped up a live cicada in her mouth from our deck, brought it inside and dropped it in the kitchen by my wife's feet. My wife then freaks out and kicks the bug under the fridge. Now, I have to pull the fridge out to get this stupid cicada (which is making loud cicada noises), while my cat rubs up against my wife's leg looking at me with smug indignation.

Ortho - spray the outside foundation and around doors and windows. Inside -spray baseboards and around windows and doors.
