South Dakota Postgame

Funny how guys improve and personnel looks better when the OC isn’t making things a pillow fight, instead putting guys in positions to have success
Funny how personnel changes improves when recruiting improves by leaps and bounds.

I get that you’re trying to fuel your narrative bashing Manning, but stop being dumb. Mouser can do more because he has more and better athletes to work with. It doesn’t work the other way around.

It’s sufficient that he’s more imaginative than Manning in the first place.

Did Overby play much? Don’t remember seeing him out there. If anybody has snap count numbers that’d be great
When I rewatched the game I was surprised how many plays Overby was on the field.

Looks like he started and played 10 snaps. Not that many.

Edit: Eskildsen only played 13 for reference.

Our recruiting hasn’t improved by leaps and bounds, and Manning had NFL talent.

Mouser thus far is better at making his personnel better than Manning (and Nate). You can think that as Manning bashing instead of Mouser praise if you please.

To suggest coaching can’t impact what players can do, their success and production, is idiotic. JFC some of you are fanatically deluded

Manning was a certified clown and grossly mismanaged the best offensive talent Iowa State has ever had. Although it’s close, I’d argue Brock Purdy/Breece Hall/Charlie Kolar/Xavier Hutchinson is better talent than what we have now.

Another hot take: This TE room is better than the Kolar/Allen/Soehner one.
That’s not a hot take. That’s simple truth.

As much as those three were cornerstones to the program, Brahmer, Burkle and Moore are individually more athletic as well.

Nah. The only certified clown is the person who would make two such stupid statements—and you just certified yourself.

Manning left a lot to be desired as a OC, we have upgraded there. As good as Purdy was for us, I think Becht will end up being the better QB. He just does not make the silly mistakes that Purdy would do, which cost us games. We do not have a running back on the roster even close to Hall. Love the TE talent right now, it's deep and seems like we have a little of everything. Hutchinson was better than our current guys, but the season is still young, maybe they will step up their game.

Very nit picky here, but I’m not sure why it keeps being said that we only had 1 penalty in the first game. We had 2- the 5 yard delay of game on Brezina and the 10 yard penalty for the kickoff out of bounds. Still very impressive but the stats people must’ve forgotten to include the kickoff in our penalty stats.
Oh, interesting. The official box score on cyclones.com has 1 for 5yds. I wonder if that's a mistake, or if the kickoff isn't considered an "actual" penalty.

I want to hear more about this Easton Miller RB? That dude is a load. He absolutely Montgomeried some SD linebacker. They are still looking for a few of his teeth.

I realize it was mop up time but physical is physical. It is nice to give the secondary a reason to think twice before throwing their body in there.
He's a RS Soph from Ankeny Centennial listed at 6'1" 225#. He lettered last year from playing on special teams - I noticed on the replays that he had a key block on Flora's first PR. It often seems like the walk-ons, practice team kids have a ton of skills and toughness and could step in if needed - like we saw at LB last year.

I believe that it is only a penalty if the receiving team elects to have a re-kick from 5 yards further back. Taking the ball at either the 35 or where it went out of bounds is considered similar to taking the ball at the 25 on a touchback.

Manning was an okay coach overall, but he didn’t make us better. His playcalling hardly deft, and he often decreased our margin for error.

Manning is a competent football coach. He just shouldn’t be the OC under CMC. They’re too similar (imo too similarly flawed on offense).

Like CW and Blum said when talking about Mouser, “this isn’t Manning calling plays”. Premature to declare him a Leach type in which he’s elite in making guys better by putting them in advantageous positions, but he’s been better than Manning in that regard.

We’re going to having some…. Conversations by the end of this year.
Might be recency bias but I think Rocco is ahead of Purdy at this point in his career. Not a massive gap or anything, just seems more refined.

The lack of run blocking is a concern. They should have run all over the new dline, but really struggled until the back-ups came in.
In both games, we've done what we wanted in the run game in the second half. Seems like we're wearing them down over time. But it would be nice to break off a few more runs early.

This is fair, but calling a guy working in the NFL a “certified clown” is…clownish.

As much as I loved those guys, I think Brahmer is ahead of Kolar, Burkle is ahead of Chase, and Moore beats out Soehner. It’s just emblematic of how the whole roster has evolved.

Also, instead of comparing our wideouts to Hutchinson’s body of work, maybe try conparing them to Xavier Game Two version? Like, just one? Say, Eskildsen?

And, at the very least, there’s a lot more there than just one guy.
