South Dakota Postgame

Yesterday's performance from Rocco was among the best I've ever seen from an Iowa State quarterback. And a great called game from Mouser.

This year is the most confident i've felt going into a cyhawk. Its the first time where I feel like we are the clear better team since ~2020. Now does that translate to a win? idk

Becht will have some tough moments like anyone but his 'vibe' right now looks like a perfect combo of the physical and mental parts of the game coming together nicely.

It's pretty cool when we pretty much have the perfect coach for us and also have managed to have close to the perfect QBs for us in Purdy and Rocco.

This is grossly overstated. If you have new coaches or a significantly different roster maybe but otherwise advanced analytics summarize the tendencies. They will watch all the games from last year and this year and pick out the weak spots from a personnel or formation point.
OK, good luck with that.

If I were running a D, I'd focus inside on Hanson and outside on Sama. Lee, and for that matter that bulldozer (Miller? Who reminds me a little of Skatebbo) seemed to have good mobility both inside and outside. Miller even has that squinting habit of Skatebbo.

Here’s a hot take for you: I think if he hadn’t gotten hurt, Ryver Peppers might just be starting by now.

Did Overby play much? Don’t remember seeing him out there. If anybody has snap count numbers that’d be great

Same question here. In the press conference, Campbell sure looked like he was fibbing when he was asked about Overby. He acted like no big deal and that he did play.

Seriously including the 4th quarter yardage is disingenuous

Hansen averaged 2.1 ypc on 9 carries. Rocco averaged 3 yards on 5 attempts. SD did a great job shutting down the run game.

Credit to them, but not what you want to see after only having one good quarter against a KSU team that struggled with UND

Hansen is great at getting post-opening yards, but does need the designed run to be there, and thus far the OL has been inconsistent at best in that. Sama is probably better suited for being a RB2 and gadget type.

Lee did look instinctive like Hansen but perhaps with more improvisation ability if nothing is there. I hope he earns more of a role
I think picking nits about running into stacked boxes is a little silly.

Hansen didn't have a lot of running room. QB running stats include sacks and sneaks.

I think many posters on here just expect ISU to magically become 1990s Nebraska running for 5 yards and a cloud of dust every play. That doesn't happen.

At the exact same time that we started slow in the run game, we had 14 consecutive completions and did not punt a single time this game. Frankly, we don't have the RB talent like we've had in the past, but the o-line is significantly better than the montgomery years, and (imo) stronger than the breece years. I'm basing this on the improvement over last season and the relatively strong start this season.

I sure would have loved to see Purdy/Breece with a Scheelhaus or Mouser offense.

Well, he did play, and looked fine. We were just targeting the tight ends all game, then played backups almost the entire 2nd half.

Stop with the false dichotomies.

No one is expecting 90’s Nebraska. It just needs to be much better than what it was on Saturday, which was bad in terms of designed runs regardless of defensive alignment

That’s not a prediction on what they’ll become, although being skeptical of CMC OL’s generally justified

- The team has had 4 total penalties through Week 0 and Week1: A defensive delay of game, a hold on Cooper playing his first game at CB, a OPI on Eskildsen and a false start with the 3rd teamers in the game. That is AMAZING
Very nit picky here, but I’m not sure why it keeps being said that we only had 1 penalty in the first game. We had 2- the 5 yard delay of game on Brezina and the 10 yard penalty for the kickoff out of bounds. Still very impressive but the stats people must’ve forgotten to include the kickoff in our penalty stats.

Also, we have to give the huge tip to Mouser. I never trusted Tom Manning. But, holy crap, Mouser makes it painfully obvious just how deficient Manning was.

Mouser shows signs of being better than Nate too.

Did Mouser competence facilitate some change in CMC as well?

Free kick OB isn't technically a penalty if the other team chooses the spot. It's only a penalty if they opt for a rekick.
