Please PM me if you are in need of hiring a computer person. I will forward him any contact information I receive.

He lives in Ames
In his 40s
Single father.
Over 14 years Network Administrator experience. Something lesser? I believe he would settle at this time.
He is open about his issue. It seems no employers want to put up with it. He doesn't hide it. He has been driving a forklift now for about six months.
Just worried about him, the pay isn't cutting it, so I have motives also.

Probably not ideal, but I would think McDonalds, Fareway, or HyVee would be a good place to start looking at. Hope things work out for you guys.

Has he investigated the vocational rehabilitation services available through Iowa Workforce Development? Not sure if they are very helpful but they exist.

@mkadl I have no idea what type of disability your son has and I wish you guys the best!

This company has done really well in the KC metro and is opening a second location. I think it's a cool story.

What kind of accommodation is he needing?
- Something of a physical nature, like a sit-stand desk, wheelchair, extra-large font monitor, etc?
- Or is it something more related to capacity / endurance / reliability?

I'm not trying to be nosy, but that might help with knowing what we're looking at for possibilities. I assume return to computer-work is the ideal.

But wishes no matter what.

It is very similar to narcolepsy but it is not. He falls asleep, as long as he stays active he is fine. Put him in a meeting you may have to nudge him. Driving long distances is scary as a father. After he became ill 4 years ago his liver was damaged. That caused this to happen. No cure. He isnt scared of putting in hours needed to do a job but an employer allowing a two hour lunch or two one hour breaks would fit the bill.

Look into City Jobs, even Cyride (office tech positions, dispatch etc)
Iowa DOT for network positions. Always help to have an in!
