I became a youth soccer ref at 10. Volunteered to do adult Iowa Games a couple times, it blows.

Volunteered at some b-ball games. It was the worst, and that was without the crazy parents. I can’t believe they find enough people willing to put up with it.

Ump didnt show up to a baseball game last year so I volunteered to ump it in flip flops behind the mound. Other teams fans and coaches rode me the whole game even though their team lost by over 10 runs in 4 innings.

I don't know which is a worse gig, basketball ref or baseball/softball umpire. Both are close to the fan base and they are asked to make a number judgement calls.

In youth and high school sports I don't think there is a worse environment than "travel" sports tournaments. Parents have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars to be there and they are insufferable.

Sadly a close second can be beer league rec program adult softball and basketball games. You always get the "my high school coach screwed me, I could have been great," person combined with the occassional NCAA Division 3 hero.

For several years we had a team in a coed kickball league, and unfortunately those people still exist in a kickball (yes, I'll say it again... kickball) league. I'm not sure who the refs hated worse - dealing with those guys, or yelling at us for sneaking beers into the dugout every week.

The world would be a different place if everyone had to experience being a waiter or referee for a month.

Sorry I'm not qualified for either.

1. I have good eyesight so I can't be an official

2. I have an education so I can't be an waiter

I was absolutely blown away by the anger I saw in a co-ed 4th of July kickball tournament. People lose their ******* minds.
