I used to want a "true" national champion for years also. That was until I attended a Bowl game that ISU was playing in. I really don't think a "true" national champion is what college football is all about. Maybe I will feel differently when we are in the fight and we get left out because Iowa fails to finish the season strong and leaves us with a weaker non-conf. schedule than we should have had.:biglaugh: Seriously though. I don't have a problem with the system the way it is. The Bowls have lost a little luster due to their saturation. I'd rather see some restructuring put in motion that limits the amount of 6 win teams that can go to a bowl. I don't like that there are a lot of teams at the end of the year that can claim they didn't get a shot at the title, but, as a fan and watcher of football, I really think I'd miss the Bowl system as it currently stands. Plus, I'm just not sure the money would be there. Would most fans have the ability to travel to 3 post season venues to watch a play-off, it's kind of doubtful. How would you determine where teams play? Does college football want stadiums only 2/3 full for the first couple of games of a playoff system. As much as I'd say, "I'd love to go to every game if ISU had the shot." At the same time, I know it wouldn't be physically nor financially possible for me to do it. So, I would have to save up for the championship game and hope we made it.
If I had to choose any system it would be a +1 kind of system. They've already moved the Championship game back a week. Why not move it back 2 weeks and just base the championship game off of the BCS bowls two weeks prior. Would it be perfect, no, far from it, but, I just don't see the same money or excitement being generated for the early playoff games, therefore it would be hard to ever see it happen. There truly is something about college football and bowl games.
