SDSU attendance predictions

First of all, Pollard himself has made a big difference. His marketing has been very good so far.

Also, we have a different coach now. With new coaches comes new interest and new chances for success.

We keep seeing that map of each county and how many Cy Club members each one has. Obviously, not all fans live in central Iowa. Thursday games don't help grow numbers outside of that area.

I did this 2 years ago for the opener from Minneapolis and will be doing it again this year. Although this year I was able to get Friday off and will be staying in Iowa for the long weekend.

(I do have to admit I cheated and left in the 4th QTR with about 5 minutes left while we were up only to get to the car to find the game tied. I was able to listen to the rest of the game on the way home. No way would I have been able to make it through the OTs and work Friday.)

But we should coddle the lame fans who cant stay up past 11 on a work night? The Thursday atmosphere is great for me and my friends that tailgate at noon, plus it makes my whole week 10x better since I dont work Thursday or Friday. It works better for most to have the ability to do football and family stuff all weekend and not pick one or the other.

But this is an attendance prediciton thread, not Thurs vs. Sat arguement, so I stick with my earlier number, almost 47k.

Things just wouldn't be the same if ISU fans didn't have something to ***** about.

I can't believe people are complaining because they have to watch our beloved football team open the season on a Thursday and not a Saturday.

I'm not for sure but I think it is. I've worn the same gold shirt to games for 8 years so I'm not a big fan of the Cardinal Rules day but I'll suck it up and throw on a cardinal shirt before I go into the game just to follow the "rules" theme.

Remember though, the Thursday night game was one of Pollard's ideas to increase attendance because as it was, people weren't showing up to the Saturday game, especially students. It was more an issue of actual attendance than paid attendance.

I just don't see it going away any time soon. I know it isn't the greatest thing for all fans. I'm out of state myself, so I can't make them. But at least for now the AD seems to think that this is our best shot at getting butts in the seats.

How would people feel if they bought baseball tickets for a Friday afternoon at 1:30. Say that game is in Chicago, and they live in West Des Moines.

Then that game gets moved to a Wednesday night 7:05.

I don't like the Thursday. Personal preference. I also think there's more downs than ups. Personal prespective. I'd like it to go back to Sat next season and from then on.

But this one was set well in advance. Certainly better than last year when they moved it a month or two before the season. Not sure this year if it was set when season ticket orders came out, but whatever. Can't complain about it too much. We have the option of saying "I can't do a Thurs night game, so I won't get the season ticket and just get the other five".

Well, 4 since you can't get a single for kNU or presumably iowa next year....... :wideeyed:

Another point to bring up, is it appropriate to wear the old McDonald's red or do you have to wear the new "real" cardinal thats darker? Is last year's emblem old enough to be considered a classic? I'm so scared I'm going to be heckled :wideeyed:

Hypothetically, I would say that I knew when the game was when I purchased the tickets.

Now if I could have only smoked in the bar where I purchased the tickets from someone...all would have been good. :wink:

And there it is, the old "I'm gonna be there, so I'm an awesome fan and everyone else sucks" line. I'm sure that's the reason that people in places like Chicago, KC, Sioux City, etc. won't make it to the Thursday night game - because it's past their bedtime.

Nice to see that the long drive from Des Moines to Ames isn't deterring you from attending. Bravo. :confused:

I agree. Although I live in Des Moines, I feel bad for people who live 3+ hrs away w/season tix. Basically, when it comes to this game, they have to plan their whole life around Cyclone football. I love it as much as the next guy, but I can totally see this being way more of an interruption, and burden than a good deal for a lot of people who would like to go...

I'm still eagerly awaiting the day when we can expect 65,000 for a home opener--and it's against a BCS Conference school. :daydreaming:

Ah, but they help grow future numbers.

Say I'm a student, thinking about shelling out my hard earned money for season tix. I see that the first game is on a Saturday--when I'm gonna be at home for the long weekend, doing laundry and picking up another carload of stuff for my dorm room/apartment.

So I can't go, and I know that for some of the later games, the weather will really suck. Plus, by mid season I might actually have to think about studying on Saturdays.

So, with one Saturday game I'll miss anyway, do I shell out my hard earned/student loan money for tix--or a new wii?

It's marketing, folks. JP's catering to the students, doing his best to develop loyalty, and the future fan base. Some AD's missed that boat over the last twenty years, which is part of the reason numbers are so low.
