I was wondering if ISU has some ability to control it's scheduling in terms of bye weeks. I only ask because I think it stinks that we have a bye week after only one game. I also remember there only being 1 bye a year, and now there are 2. I like the conference bye, but I hate the bye being after the first game. If I were a player, I would really like to get back on the field ASAP to correct mistakes.

I think everyone has two idle weeks this year with how the calendar is set up. Hopefully ISU doesn't make many mistakes on 8/31

The reason we have a week 2 bye is because the B1G moved to a 9 game conference slate and scheduled Iowa/Rutgers that date... Iowa State's hands were tied.

I like the 9/7 bye week. The two biggest tailgates on back to back weeks would have been a big challenge. A week to recoup is a blessing.

CyHawk game is traditionally the 2nd Saturday of September. In 2019, that's Week 3. (B1G/Rutgers had no bearing.)

Every team has two open weeks this year because there are 14 Saturdays in the regular season.

The open week in Week 2 is the result of several schedule changes dating back to conference realignment. Sept. 7 was the original date for the game at Navy. That series got axed during realignment. Then, it was supposed to be at Akron, but got moved up to 2017 to replace the trip to San Jose, which never happened. There was also a report of a 2-for-1 with Kent State, which never materialized. As a result of all of that, 9/7 is open and 9/21 is ULM.
