I have a 1994 F350xl that was in perfect condition (inside and out) with 28k miles. Has a steel 10” flatbed

Tornado three weeks ago put a grain bin on top of it

Insurance has totaled it because of the cab damage

I’ve found an similar truck and I’m thinking about buying it and switching the cabs

Has anyone done this or know who would do it? Basic body shops have told me they don’t have the equipment to do it

Other than wiring and a few mechanical connections there isn't a lot that needs disconnected. But lifting the new cab without damaging it could be a challenge. I'd look into a gantry crane.

I had the cab of a 1975 f250 4x4 off in a day that spent 20 years in a grove. You will not have rusted fasteners as severe as that one. Piece of cake.

I used a skidloader with forks and straps to take it off. Skidloader with forks and and some Maguivering to put it on after restoration.

Is it a show truck? Less than a thousand miles a year.......................Only thing with wheels around me that get that small amount is bicycles (and those should be getting more).

I have not done it on a body repair situation like you are in, but have lifted cabs a few times to do engine repair. I see people on Facebook do it all the time. Switching the wiring will take time unless the donor cab is from a similar enough truck that the wiring will work.

But seriously you have an OBS Ford with 28K on it, that truck is worth some good $$$. Go for it.

Not sure where you are from, but if you're in the western part of the state check out Resurrection Rides in Coon Rapids, IA. He started out doing detailing and collision repair and has moved into mostly restoration work. Sounds like your project is on the borderline of collision repair and a restoration.

Some day I would like to cab swap my Cummins, (roof damage and rockers / cab corners are gone)
