They were buzzed before they spiked the ball. So they had every right to review the play. The buzzer went off before they spiked it.

To say our offense is not there is a joke. You van't score 45 points one week and then not score that many the next ans say our offense sucks. You are not going to be on every game that is life. Just like Most people are not doing their job 100% every day. We all have days that are not as good as others. We will be fine against the hawks. They are not as good as people think they are.

This officiating was on par with the Nebraska-Michigan Alamo Bowl Game last year; absolutely terrible. Why did we get officials from the Mountain West? That's stupid. UNLV got all the calls (fumbles, spots, you name it). Then UNLV and their coach had the nerve to be pissed about the ending which officials actually got right? Give me a break. Get off the field you jerks. Shouldn't have come down to that, thankfully ISU pulled it out with the defense. Our offense needs to freakin' step it up.

Regarding the officiating. That game ranks right up their with some of the worst officiating I've seen. Watching the balance of calls that seemingly always broke UNLV's way on the road really gives one pause about whether some nefarious motives were behind the calls.

The infamous 3rd down play. From my point of view it looked like the receiver caught the ball. The ISU defend came up and made contact which stopped the receiver and almost simultaneously the ball was either stripped or jarred loose. There only seemed to be two logical ways to rule on this play. Either it was incomplete because the receiver didn't establish possession before the ball came out or it was a fumble. What I believe the officials ruled was that foward progress was halted before the ball came out. I couldn't hear the official ruling because of the crowd noise. It appears that they did rule forward progress was halted, and that's why they didn't rule it as a fumble. If that is the case, these officials are either incompetent or cheaters.

A few other calls that were real head shakers. TB was running a route down the sideline and the UNLV defender extended his arm and pushed Todd out of bounds and continued to hold him out of bounds for about ten yards. The sidline official appeared to be watching it the whole way and never threw the flag. The personal foul called on Brant was odd. I didn't see it happen, but the flag came out very late after two officials got together. The face mask on Stevie Hicks was called incidental, but I have no clue how you wouldn't rule that a personal foul. The player extened his arm as Stevie was passing him and the only contact he made was his hand grabbing his face mask.

I'm glad we won the game because we definitely had to overcome some poor officiating. I would definitely recommended that we stop scheduling Mountain West opponents.

For anyone who didn't see the local news here in Ames (which I assume is pretty much all of you), they covered the game and got a LOT of footage of the fiasco after the game. Their segment on it showed their camera guy attempting to interview/distract UNLV's coach as he flew into the Jacobson Building, chasing down the referees. The refs make a break for it, escaping with just a verbal beating, and the cameraguy follows Mr. Crazy Coach down the stairs, screaming at the top of his lungs all the while, back onto the field. He charges the turf, berating everyone in sight and heads back to his team. He is screaming the entire time.

Meanwhile 5 UNLV players (3 starters, I think) sprint out to the middle of the 50 and start jumping up and down on Cy's face on the field and gesturing that they are "number 1". I think it was supposed to be intimidating, but it just looked ********.

The coach gets back to his team, and I lost track of exactly what happened there, but a couple of minutes later, one of the UNLV whips his helmet off, spikes it to the ground, and starts stomping on it as hard as he can. The Rebels FINALLY left the field (to ISU Fights, I might add) almost 15 minutes after the Cyclones were gone. I have never seen worse sportsmanship at the collegiate level in my life. That was absolutely despicable.

I must say, though, that both the student section and the band were coming up with some pretty good cheers all night long. (Among others, "Let's play football" towards the end of the Eternal Video Review, and "The band is hungry" when UNLV wouldn't leave.) It was a frustrating game, thanks largely to the awful officiating, but it was fun. Let's make our record 3-0 next week!

is there a video clip of that anywhere, cause I would love to see it!

It is most certainly NOT a joke to say that our offense is not there. Tell me how it is there when we only score 23 points in REGULATION against Toledo (who, by the way, was whipped 31-10 by Western Michigan last night), and only 16 points in REGULATION against UNLV???? I guess you think 19.5 points per regulation period is some kind of great offensive showing. Here's some news for you. IT'S NOT.

I wish some people would remember that while we did score 45 points vs. Toledo, 22 of them were in OVERTIME, not regulation!!

About the Hawks, as bad as our team looks right now (although 2-0), we will still come out of I.C. next week with another W.

I don't know about a video clip (probably, but I haven't looked for it yet) but here is one of three stories about the game from the Las Vegas Times-Herald. It's a pretty good read, and as a bonus it features a picture of what appears to be Sasquatch in a UNLV oufit jumping in the middle of the field.

The story:

A quote from that article:

"UNLV should be 2-0 today but isn't because it pulled the pillow away from its opponent's face before asphyxiation officially set in."

Please. The only lead they held was 3-0. We were very close to asphyxiation at that point, I'm sure....in the 1st quarter.

From Review Journal -

"If the Cyclones are truly one of the better Big 12 teams, then we know at least one BCS Conference that is dead-flat average this season. UNLV should be 2-0 today but isn't because it pulled the pillow away from its opponent's face before asphyxiation officially set in. "

OUCH
