The PACN without a network partner to use its power to get the network on Direct TV was a horrible decision by the former commissioner. I understand his thinking, if the league owns the entire channel, they will get all the profit from the channel. But he didn't understand that he needed one of the large media companies pull to get it on many cable or satellite systems.
Selling out now to someone like Apple, does not solve that problem a whole lot, because Apple or Amazon will want to stream it, thereby pushing more games off the terrestrial landscape. ESPN/ABC already has the ACC, B12 and next year the SEC, Fox has the B10 and NFL, NBC has ND, while CBS has the NFL and other college sports. Not sure there is a network out there left, that would be able and willing to purchase PACN that helps them much outside of an infusion of capital.
Think we are about to have an answer to your question. Even though many have been laughing, GK probably has done about as good as anyone could considering what he has had to work with. The teams are still part of the PAC after all this time. If he gets a lesser deal signed it means BY could not close the deal.
IMO keeping the PAC 12 together will relegate the PAC 12 to the bottom of the P5 Conferences. B12 is just fine. Just stay put. Any deal PAC 12 gets will be a bandaid.

The only way George K presents the numbers and can get the conference to stay together is if it is with in 5 million of the Big 12. The PAC10 needs that to save face and not look like an inferior conference in the short term.
Pac10 maybe able to get there but if it is a heavy streaming package that limits visibility of games it still would be in the best of interest of individual schools to jump to the Big 12.
Changing a conference is a huge move breaking decade long partnerships so college's really need major incentive (money/viewership) to make the move.
Part of the reason I think Colorado isn't as "all in" on staying is due to having regrets on jumping from the Bi2 and not succeeding as they thought both on the field and off. CO doesn't have the long standing PAC brand and relationships to concern them either.
I hope the PAC stays together if it's within $5 million. That's still giving away a lot of dough, but it also takes away a little of the gun-for-hire mentality too.
I'd be surprised if that is the true number. The most optimistic calculations I could come up with only got to $26M per. And if it was truly $28M all this time, why string it out forever and ever?
I could easily believe that is gross, and the conference has to foot the bill for the PACN ($70Mish iirc) and then the net is more like $21M.
It would be nice to find out something today and put this to bed. It would be hilarious though if "the partnerships" are shared but not financials.

The problem is for that price tag, they're going to want more exclusivity and big time games on their platform rather than sublicensing it to someone else. Plus, as we know, the league is still going to be picking up production costs that will only increase over time.

I’m guessing $28M is the cumulative of their “creative packaging” assuming they’ve got CW or someone in as a linear provider for a top game or two each week and then backfilling with Apple.
If that figure is in the ballpark though, it would still be important to distinguish whether that’s inclusive of any production costs that they may incur or not. If that’s not inclusive and they have to pay some out of pocket, then $28M is not apples to apples. Then the question is where does your net land?

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. PAC 12 fans can hardly be bothered to go to games or watch them on the premier sports channels. How many of them are going to spring for Apple TV of all things to do that?
$28 million Net? Gross minus PAC 12 Network loss. Plus production costs for streaming networks games. Which is it. Net or Gross?
And spin perfect culture fit SMU as a win for the culture club. Maybe lie that SMU turned down the B12 when we added TCU and Houston?
I thought beating the Big 12 number was a “layup”? What happened to that? I don’t think they have it. I know when I see someone dicking other people around.
If you read the Denver Post article, their chancellor repeated what some other PAC ADs and Presidents have said about being 3rd highest in revenue when it's over. Now have they seen preliminary numbers that they keep saying it? Or are they setting the expectations so they leave with less-than-ideal numbers? Altimore believes the first. Scheer believes the second. I've seen estimates by Twitter people from $19M each to $40M each, I really don't buy either extreme here. The slightly more sourced people (that still don't know crap) have been from $25M to $32M, and I believe these are possible. Guessing those pushing $28 are going with the law of averages. It sounds like we're gonna know soon. Even if Altimore wins this round, he doesn't seem to understand that all the speculation of teams leaving is going to return as the new contract gets closer to expiring.
