Re Al Mitchell

I think we will see Re-al in a game at some point in time just to have that change in look. I doubt he will be starting, or for that matter get past his 4 game limit unless he is way more successful than I anticipate. I have not heard a lot about the kid from Waterloo, so my guess would be, if it came down to the third string guy, we would see Purdy. His skill set is more in line with what CMC is trying to do.

Kind of what I was thinking. Not sure what kind of skill set Purdy brings. Is he a runner or just a drop back pro style quarterback?
 
Its pretty risky to play a kid when our front five more closely resembles a group of bull fighters than a quality D1 offensive line. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some mop up snaps later in the year with the new redshirt rule (in fact it would be foolish not to).

I think he is primarily a passer, but he does have decent speed and ran for quite a few yards last year in HS, as I recall. Kind of the guy ISU really needs with the crap OL that we saw last week.

If he was ineffective it was because he came in at desperation time and the other team knew exactly what he had to do. I thought he came in cold, played without fear and threw some nice balls.

It’s not Mitchell time, but questioning the QB position is valid when your starter is injured.

Also, I think replacing Lanning as a QB is a concern. His attempts and yards were low, but having a running QB extended some key drives last year. Given Kempt’s limited mobility in combination with our OL, having the option of a more mobile QB would big.

Zeb was rushed in the 4th big time. Campbell said that Zeb did well given the situation of needing to dig out of a 2 score hole quickly (touchdown plus marching up the field for something else given 10 pts ). I do sadly respect Iowa's D. Sadly in the 2nd half our offense couldn't keep the D off the field. The D wore down. There were too many mistakes that put too much pressure on our cyclone D. The D played well in spite of everything else.

I think before putting the cart ahead of the horse, we fans need to do 2 things. Last I heard Kempt was day to day. Thats going to be a question mark until Saturday from the sounds of it... (Updates are definitely appreciated) We need to first figure out Kempt's status. Is it he'll be fine enough for Saturday? Is it he will miss x weeks? Nobody truly knows for sure yet. Plus Zeb is still healthy!!! The other thing us fans need to do is let it all play out the way it is supposed to with Campbell managing things. I doubt Campbell will even want to burn Mitchell's redshirt or any of the other true freshmen qbs unless absolutely necessary. Remember that there is the redshirt freshman from Waterloo that was hurt last year that possibly could be in the cards too. I have no idea.

Remember that Kempt last year was a curveball too when he started against Oklahoma.

If Campbell and Co. feel its best..... He may throw another curveball if the situation arises. One thing at a time... In spite of the loss, I have not lost faith....

Yeah, you really can't tell much from a guy who comes into a situation fresh where you absolutely have to pass, and everyone knows it (with shaky protection to boot).

Did you not see the news out of HMC's press conference that Kempt is day-to-day and the injury is much less significant than initially thought? Or are you just trying to stir the pot?

I must have been watching another game than some of you. Calling Zeb ineffective is a bit of a stretch. He was 4 of 10. Butler had one drop off of his chest on the deep out on 3rd and 25, and Butler had a better than 50% chance to catch that deep post route. Zeb also intentionally threw one into the first row. The only pass that was bad was the throw in the flat that he bounced 7 yards in front of the receiver, I think it was Butler again. Both of Zeb's drive went down the field and were stalled by penalties or drops. Even the Hoks that were around me were surprised at how we started moving the ball again. Also DM had a good run while Zeb was in. Unfortunately it was also called back by penalty.

As far as who should be 3rd string, Moore, the kid from Waterloo, has more experience with the play book than Mitchell or Purdy.

I'm wondering if Devon Moore is #3. Afterall, he was on the team last year, though hurt. Purdy's videos impressed me more than Re-al's.
