Some former players are super supporters, like Gary Thompson. And Fred Hoiberg.
They are exceptions. The majority, probably not so much.
Among recent football players, Mac was well liked by 99% of his players and some might resent his dismissal.
Among recent basketball players the Floyd-Eustachy-Morgan-McDermott rollercoaster has probably had a negative impact on loyalty. Unfortunately most of the big-name type players brought in by Floyd, Eustachy, & Morgan (Fizer, Tinsley, Stinson, Blaylock, etc.) did not appear to care about ISU one bit except as a stepping stone to the NBA (or NBA-D League)....so I wouldn't expect any BB players from the Floyd/Eustachy/Morgan era to ever support the school much with appearances, fundraising, or donations.
For the record, unlike the OP I think we do get more support from our former athletes than EIU does from theirs. Yes, their fans will talk endlessly about guys like Bob Sanders and Dallas Clark and how much pride they take in their big $ NFL contracts (as if they had anything to do with it)...but I don't see Iowa naming any campus buildings after these guys for their donations.
