QB position

I still think Arnauds hand is not 100%. His accuracy and deep threat is not what it was before the injury. Still he makes good decisions in the pocket and his legs are his greatest strength right now. He had some runs yesterday for postive yardage that Tiller would have dropped at the line of scrimage.

This is such a stupid thread....you must be just like the guy in section B yesterday who started yelling for Tiller because AA had the throw the ball away after running for his life because the O-line gave him no time. AA is a solid QB who is in his 3rd system in 4 years and is just coming off a hand injury. Funny, I didn't see any of these threads after the KU and Baylor games.

I had several guys like that in section m as well. I was going to set them straight but trying convince drunken idiots that they are wrong is about the same as debating anything with liberals.

That said Hamilton was wide open several times down the field.

Other than Hamilton (who'll be gone next year), we have no big wide receivers. Look at Okie State. They lose their top two wide receivers at the beginning of the season, and they still have a couple big, tall receivers ready to take their place. Look at Iowa. Their top wide receiver is a big, tall ex-QB. Those guys don't need a lot of space to catch the ball. I'm afraid we're really going to miss Hamilton next season. Hopefully Jennert can put on enough weight to hold up next season as we're going to need him.

You play with the players you have. Right now, AA is the best we have at QB. But my point is we have to upgrade the play at that position if we are going to the next level. That can mean a better AA, Tiller, or someone else. If someone feels we can't do better, I respect that. But I've seen our QB's holding back our offense all season, and that's my view.

AA has been terrible this season. There's no other way to put it. I for one would like to see an open competition for the job next year. AA is a great guy, a good leader and trys his hardest everygame, but he just cant make a lot of throws and is horribly inconsistent. Let Barnett, Capello, Tiller take a shot at AA's starting spot next year.

I want AA to be the starter next year. It will be the second year of this system for him and I'm sure he will make tons of improvements. It also helps to get another WR in here like Chris Young, who I expect to be a starter next year.

AA will be the starter, but the competition will be interesting.

I really don't think the competition will be interesting. AA will be healthy, and be in his second year of the system.

I don't know much about Bartlett or Capello, but Tiller has shown me NOTHING to think he can be a starter on this team over Arnaud.

Guys Guys Guys!!!!... I've got it figured out...

This off-season:
1). our WR's will work on route running, separating from the initial CB jam, catching the ball.
2). The O-line will improve their footwork, and execution of blocking schemes.
3). Our QB's will deepen their understanding of Herman's playbook, and improve their accuracy and decision making.
4). The coaching staff will lace all of these position improvements together, improve their own understanding of the offense and playcalling.

The off-season will again be an open competition at QB. Slight edge to Arnaud.

It's a team sport, and a shortcoming is never all someone's (position) fault. Collective improvement, team chemistry, and understanding of a new, complex offense will take place, and result in improvement.

That is my observation/ prediction.

Do some of you guys watch any other games? I have watched Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford and others throw 5-6 bad passes a game many times. These guys are considered the elite of college football. Yeah, just go out and find a guy that can complete 80% of his throws and have a TD/Interception ratio of 10/1. Then the nucklehead in section 12 that sits a few rows behind me can find something else to complain about. AA was looking great against KU and the first 25 minutes against BU before his injury. I believe he was something like 18-21 against Baylor before playing a couple series with his swelled up hand. I have faith that a healthy AA will look a lot bet with a full season of Herman's system under his belt next year.

There was an open competition last year and guess who won? AA. Arnaud will be the qb next year as long as he doesnt get injured.

You have to take some with a grain of salt here. AA is far from perfect, but some would start Tiller ahead of him who has proven to be behind AA in performance. Further proven by AA clearly not being 100% yet but still playing.

Give this offense a group of receivers that can get separation from defenders and run crisp routes - no one would be complaining about AA.

Well, someone would, but those very few people had an ax to grind with him seemingly before he even arrived on campus.

:biglaugh::biglaugh: Terrible? :biglaugh::biglaugh:

If AA has been terrible, we have had terrible quarterbacks for as long as I've been alive.

My faith still lies in AA.

The only problem I ever had with AA was his inability to check down/look off defenders. My guess is that it's hard to find all of your options when you've learned several different offenses in as many years though.

I expect a better offense in our bowl game. The guys will FINALLY have time to rest, catch their breath and work out some of the wrinkles. And I expect our offense to be much improved next year simply because we have better coaches that have a year under their belt at ISU.

Thanks, mods, for changing the title of this thread.

AA is doing a decent job under difficult circumstances (we DO have six wins, after all), and I'm really looking forward to him having a healthy season, with better pass protection and a year in the system under his belt.

He stares at his initial receiver, if he's open, he throws it. If not, he quickly glances around at the D-line and then either runs or suddenly spots a reciever who comes back to the ball.

Perhaps when our O-line improves, he will be able to look around the field more..?

That type of player will not work in a spread offense.

I love having the duel threat option, but there have been TONS of QB's that have succeeded in the spread without being able to run the ball. Go back to the original spread offense with Couch at Kentuckey, Lorenzen at Kentuckey, any of the Oklahoma or Texas Tech QB's, even Brady with the Patriots. Being able to run in the spread is a nice luxury, but not a necessity.

Let's put it this way. Would you rather have a quarterback who can run in the spread or one who can't?

I saw Oklahoma State's quarterback make some of his most important plays with his feet and not his arm last night.

So you would not want Sam Bradford or Tom Brady? I am just making sure I read this correctly. Those guys are not exactly fleet of foot.
