QB position

What a ridiculous ball-watcher post this is.

If you watch the receivers when they don't have the ball, they are very rarely getting separation to get open.

This. How many push off penalties do we get because our recievers arent fooling anyone?

I think Arnaud will have a great season his senior year.

What a horrible thread. Please do not start threads if you don't understand the game. You were probably the guy behind me in section 24 yelling for put Tiller in after Arnaud's first incomplete pass.

THE RECEIVERS ARE NOT GETTING OPEN and the offensive line was getting owned yesterday. Vandenburg could not run the read option and Arnaud picks up an extra 3-4 yards that Tiller would not get during the QB keepers.

Where do you sit? We sat up from a guy being a complete **** and booing Arnaud last week. He got threats from at least 4-5 guys up there that he should shut up and head east.

I am in Section B row 13 an I could hear that idiot yelling for Tiller.
You gotta luv old sec B. go clones!

Arnaud is a beast on the run, it still impresses me how he drags the pile with him on running plays. Its too bad he got hurt, becuase it seems to me since then the coaching staff has run him alot less, which is no surprise due to the injury. He juked a couple guys out of their shoes yesterday and had nearly the entire defense dragging behind him on some runs and hes been doing that all year. Almost makes me wonder how he would do at RB. ALMOST...

B17 here. Ha!

Yeah there are some real winners up there. Its not real often that I can make games, but when I do, I want to cheer on my team and not have to defend them against fans of the same team.

The fight and determination alone makes me love the guy. He makes mistakes like anyone else, but makes up for it more times than not.

The only person i would consider is Cameron Newton. hes 6''6 250 lbs can run and has a good arm. signed with florida out of high school in 2007. He has some offers but nothing "elite".

I haven't seen any video but based on the eye test he certainly seems like an upgrade.

The lack of football knowledge on this thread is hilarious. We need a QB? Whoever thinks this is a football idiot. AA is doing a great job especially with his legs. The line was doing ok for run blocking, but AA was getting no time to throw. Colorado was blitzing almost every down. They have great lock down corners that were jamming our receivers. AA did a GREAT job considering the circumstances. Please before you post anything have some substance to back up your opinion. Otherwise just go to the Hawkeye site and chat with your own kind.

My only question was yesterday it seemed like on every third and long we had we left AA in the pocket and CU would bring an extra man and AA would not have time to throw. Why didn't they roll him out more often and give him a run pass option?
When you roll out you cut the field in half. Colorado did a lot of that yesterday. Maybe we need to Max protect with a TE an a back or at least have them chip off a rusher. AA was forced to throw a lot of slants and was still getting hit. I am not sure what the answer is. I am just glad we won and hope we get it figured out.

What about when Arnaud threw that easy pass over collin franklins head? The wind is no excuse!! Or when he threw that pass in the dirt to a wide open hamilton on third down? Or overthrew darks in the endzone? Or overthrew a Wide open Lenz in the end zone????

"The receivers aren't getting open..." Wow..

Yea, that guy complained about everything, pessimistic, but I know he cheered for each touchdown and the final result of the game. Weird.

Post in response to this:

This is such a stupid thread....you must be just like the guy in section B yesterday who started yelling for Tiller because AA had the throw the ball away after running for his life because the O-line gave him no time. AA is a solid QB who is in his 3rd system in 4 years and is just coming off a hand injury. Funny, I didn't see any of these threads after the KU and Baylor games.

I've been to all the games and watched our stumbling offense. We are underperforming at the QB position. Right now AA is the best we have, but his passes are often not on target, he is prone to fumbles and he throws needless interceptions. His running is his strength, but we need more than that to go to the next level. I've seen a litany of excuses:
-new system
-poor receivers
-poor blocking
-injuries
-bad play calling
eventually, we will have to show we have someone at that position who can move the offense consistantly. I've listened to excuses all season. We need to face the facts, our QB play must improve.

Exactly. Our struggles on Pass offense are all over the place. It is not all Arnauds fault, but, he receives most of the credit and most of the blame. When he throws a TD pass- he is GREAT! When he throws a pick, its, "why isn't tiller in?" That is the nature of the position. So until he starts throwing multiple TD passes in every game, he will continue to recieve critisism.

I've said before I think we need a HS QB recruited in this current class, redshirt him next season and just pound the playbook into his brain then let him compete the following season with Tiller for the starting job. Need a kid that can pass out of the pocket more than use his legs to make plays.

That type of player will not work in a spread offense.

Yeah, he wasn't getting hit on ANY of those passes. I'm sorry, but when you're under pressure, you don't make as good of throws as you would when you can step into it. He got LIT on the pass that went over Collin's head. Arnaud owes A-Rob supper for some of the blitzes he picked up yesterday to keep Arnaud on his feet. I don't know what it is, but our offensive line's pass protection has deteriorated as the year has gone on. There were multiple plays yesterday Arnaud took the snap and had about a second to get rid of it. No quarterback is going to succeed in that situation.

Where is the target when your receiver is covered up? Of course he's going to fumble more often than most quarterbacks, he runs with the ball a LOT more often, and don't all quarterbacks throw needless interceptions? They don't just break the huddle and say, "Hey, I'll throw a pick on this play. What the hell."

Just so you know, those are all plausible excuses. New system, not everyone is sure of where to be all the time. Play calling can be tied to this. It looks like we've dumbed the playbook down as the season has gone on and we've had less of Arnaud throwing a pass and the receiver breaking the opposite direction.

Maybe you should re-watch some of our games and specifically the receivers. The tight ends are the only ones who get through press coverage. When your receivers can't get separation, your quarterback has very, very little room for error. Does he occasionally throw a head scratcher pick? Yeah, but what quarterbacks don't?

I don't know if you've been watching games recently, but have you seen the time he's had to throw on some passes? A-Rob has been nothing short of great in pass protection. AA should've gotten drilled a few times yesterday and A-Rob bailed him out. Our pass protection earlier in the conference season looked better than it does now.

I don't know about the injury, but it's obviously a plausible excuse. AA at 75% is still a better option than Tiller at 100%.
