Q&A: Abdelmassih breaks down DeAndre Kane

clonedude, I know there's good in you. I've seen it, with posts like this:

Nothing to be ashamed of.

We lost on a bad call and a 3 pointer by a guy that hadn't even taken a 3 all game long and bricked up his last 3 or 4 FT attempts as well.

Also, we were playing the entire 2nd half without a starter AND our best defensive player. So who is the better team? I'll take ISU.

Still, as I said, nothing to be ashamed of. Just disappointed that I don't think the better team won today. Would have been more interesting if ISU was at full strength all day.

That's a classy, reasoned post at a time when many of us were still disgusted about the ending of the tOSU game. If you were like that more often, it'd be a joy to talk basketball with you.

It's just that most of the time, you say things like this:

Have you played any basketball in your life? Shooting one handed is no big deal. At least it shouldn't be if you are using correct shooting form.

I coached 5th and 6th grade boys basketball and I made my kids do a drill where they stood about 8 feet from the hoop and HAD to shoot with only one hand. It teaches you to shoot the ball correctly. It forces you to put your elbow underneath the shooting hand in a straight line. And it also forces you to put the correct rotation on the ball too. The opposite hand is only on the side of the ball for support, it's not really needed.

Most likely Fred shot one-handed 3's in practice all the time. It is a good way to correct any bad form you might have.

Now if he had stepped out there and made 5 straight 3's one-handed, that would be pretty good.

That diatribe was in response to someone saying it was cool that CFH swished a one-handed three in front of a reporter before a press conference. Posts like that are what make me think that you punch kittens for fun.

Don't be that guy. Be more like this guy:

Exactly right. Georges played that perfect. Craft is not a threat at all from deep. Niang could not have risked getting blown by on the drive there. He has no reason to apologize for anything he's done this year. The kid is an absolute beast. I love him.

Best of all, you never heard him feel bad for himself in that interview. He only felt bad for his teammates. You can't ask for a better kid or teammate than that. He cares more about others than himself. What a great player. Can't wait to watch him again next year!

Once again, as I've been pointing out, please tell me where I've been negative? I haven't. You guys somehow are reading into it that I'm being negative somehow?

I've said NUMEROUS times now that the addition of Kane is good no matter what the situation is. I don't know how many times I need to say that? Is that being negative?

And I've also said that CW needed to ask the question that everyone wants the answer to. That's not being negative either. At least not in my mind.

And I've stated that I cannot make any judgement on whether our team will be better with Kane or not without knowing if anyone else is leaving. That is an obvious statement and also there is nothing negative about that either.

But poster after poster is saying I'm Mr. Negative. I don't get it? As I've said, the hatred overrides the reading comprehension for some reason?

You're a Cyclone, none of us hate you. It was just 99% of us disagreed with your thought that a specific question was required to be asked. There's nothing wrong with manning up and saying "yeah, I guess you guys are right and it would have been a stupid question". You may be surprised what some humility would do for your rep.

I think asking that question would be fair game in major market cities. But small Midwest city media usually throw softballs.

Where? I suggest a review of your entire posting history. That's kind of your M.O. Your calling card, as it were.

You're the wet blanket, the glass half empty guy, the bird poop in the ice cream, the sourpuss, the dirty diaper on Grandpa an hour into the drive to Branson, the "always finds a fault" guy, the "no news is good enough that it can't be complained about" guy. It's just sort of your thing, your role on CF. I'm not suggesting you stop. I just thought you knew the impression your posts have been leaving over the years. It's what we've all come to expect of you.

Very well said. But you know what really gets me? It isn't the negativity, but how clonedude turns so many threads into conversations that rehash over and over again about something in his posts (that is usually not the main point of the thread). If not for the evidence and testimony that he is a Cyclone fan, I would think he is just a masterful troll. Does anyone know him personally to vouch for his credibility?

I always thought this too. If there is one word I would attach too his posting history it is "annoying". No conversation he has input on ever accomplishes anything.

I apologize for not even seeing this thread until today. I took yesterday to be with some family and didn't even get on the site.

As for "the question..."

I am fair game to be critiqued. I've got no problem with it. It is part of my job.

When it comes to stuff like scholarships and human beings, I am absolutely NOT going to just throw names out there to see if they stick. These are kids' lives we're talking about here. For a "question" like this, you will not see anything published by me unless it is rock solid, sourced information.

So now that you know how I feel about the "question," ask yourself this. Ask yourself if you really think that throughout the last five days or so, I've really just sat on my thumbs and talked to nobody about this situation?

Come on man. You don't have to like me. You can tell me that I suck. But do you really think I have just turned my head the other way and ignored it?

I published this roundup on May 30...I address the scholarship situation within it, before Kane even committed.

Cyclone Roundup: Kane on campus, Thursday night football? | News | Men's Basketball | Cyclone Fanatic

As I noted before, things like scholarships are touchy. The fact is, I have talked to staffers and I've gotten nothing that is print-worthy. They aren't talking about it right now so what is the point in writing about it? I don't see that point. And again, I could be wrong. I am wrong all of the time, just ask my wife.

We'll see what happens. Iowa State is obviously one over so I assume some sort of news will come out before too long.

All I know is that this didn't just sneak up on the staff. It never does. Fans worry so much about scholarships and I'd say that 99 percent of the time the coaching staff, which together gets paid millions of dollars to handle this stuff, has the situation completely under control.

Stay tuned.

Some people need to seriously consider this before saying anything

I'll say that I agree with Clonedude that we should ditch our football offense, if it doesn't improve here shortly.

If the offense doesn't start gaining some yards and scoring in a reasonable amount of time, say between now and the end of July, I may be inclined to agree.

...or not.

Chris - Maybe I missed something. I didnt see anyone suggest you "throw out names." You had a member of the coaching staff speak to you about a recent signing. There is an obvious obstacle that they have planned around. It was a chance to get an official comment on the plan. That's all. Maybe they would address it. Maybe they wouldnt. But you never know unless you ask.

Read it again. He did ask.
