For this segment, we explore groups people might not realize are still performing/touring/recording.

It’s OK if there was a band-split, then reformation, but even better if they’ve stayed continuously (or close to it).

For bands that continue to record new material, post a clip of a familiar song when the band was more “prominent,” and another more recent track.

Optional: Include continuity of band membership, in addition to the clip(s).

On That Note is presented each week on Cyclone Fanatic by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500.

I'll start with this, no specific reason, demonstrates the gist.

Loverboy

1979-1988 / 1989 / 1991-present

Founding members, still in the group:
Mike Reno
Paul Dean

Third single (released 1981)

Latest single released in 2022

The Zombies
5 original members when a bar band in St. Albans UK
4 of them remained when they got their breakthrough and the 5th added was Chris White who, along with Rod Argent, were the primary song writers.

They languished due to poor promotion, a producer that refused to adapt.
In 1967 they caught a break and got a modest contract with CBS records and went into studio to produce something they wanted. The result was Odessey and Oracle. Initially a disappointing failure commercially - one lone DJ/programmer in Boise Idaho began playing Time of the Season incessantly. Eventually the song became a nation hit in 1969 - almost 2 years after it was recorded.

Despite efforts to regroup the members did not.

Rod Argent went on to form Argent.
Colin Blunstone had some solo success and was a featured vocalist on several Alan Parsons Project cuts.

Needing a keyboard player at the last minute Colin asked his old friend Rod if he would fill in for 5 dates.

This eventually led to the group reforming with those two as the cornerstone..
Their latest Album Different Game was released in 2023.

And if anyone ever gets the chance to see their Biographical Documentary entitled "Hung up on a Dream" I can highly recommend it.

Eighteen Visions. Listened to their album quite a bit in high school. They broke up in 2007 which was less than a year after their first major record. I was surprised to hear they started the band back up a decade later. Crazy part is nearly every member of the band in 2007 was in the band when it reformed. Here's one of the songs from that album from high school.

Haven't listened to any of their music since reforming.

The Oak Ridge Boys are still touring and just released another album recently too. Has been some different configurations over the years too, with the passing of Joe Bonsall last year they have a young tenor named Ben James who does a good job. William Lee Golden did an interview last year and it sounds like they want to pass the torch on when they all retire so they may keep bringing in new guys whenever the other 3 decide to retire.

Probably their first big country hit:

The Steve Miller Band is still touring. He's been preforming since 1966 and now is 81 years old but still rocking. Got to see him in Des Moines in 2019 as had never seen him in person live and he put on a great show. Marty Stuart was touring with him at the time and they did a pretty neat version of Dance Dance Dance together in the middle of Steve's set. Steve has not recorded a studio album since 2011 and started the show by saying all you are going to hear are his hits because that's what everyone wants to hear and he doesn't have any new music to promote anyway.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is still performing although the band members have changed over the year. They have been active since 1966. Most people people probably think of them from when Jimmy Ibbotson was the lead singer (1970-1976, 1983-2009) but the only 2 originals left from 1966 are Jeff Hanna who does the lead vocals now and the drummer Jimmie Fadden. Bob Carpenter would be the next longest member from 1979 on the keyboard. Looks like they last recorded an album in 2022 which was the first one since 2009.

A notable band member with a brief stint with them was Eagles member Bernie Leadon from 1988-89 performing with them in this clip

A clip of them performing last year:
