For this week’s segment, we explore songs in which an artist/group mentions the title or a key lyrical element from a separate song within its catalog. The reference could appear in song title or lyrics.

By extension, we also accept lyrical mentions of a member of the band. That could include self-reference from the person who’s singing or a reference to the band’s name.

IT IS NOT a reference to another artist/group’s material. (We covered that in a previous OTN). If a song happens to involve exterior refs, too, that’s OK, of course.

On That Note is presented weekly by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500.

One to start:

References “Everyday People,” “Sing a Simple Song,” “Dance to the Music,” and some lyrics.

I remember the feeling, not so long ago
The kids came dancin', their hearts were romancin'
And the music was live Poco
Some called it country, some called it rock and roll
But whatever the sound, it was sure to be found
With a heart, rhythm and soul

Testifying
One of my favorite hip hop bands ever, A Tribe Called Quest, uses their own names, mentions their band name, calls out there other members, etc a lot.

To all the people who can Quest like A Tribe does

Right now, Phife is a poem sayer

Who got the vibe? It's the Tribe, y'all! (Tribe, y'all!)

The Di-Dawg is first up to bat

With a brother named Tip

So, here's Busta Rhymes with the scenario
