If Coach Mac gets fired then what makes you think players wont leave nd we will jus be rebuilding again. I think Mac should atleast get next year and if he has another bad year then we can think about firing.

You must have been the Dbag Bunny fan that sat behind us in Hilton.

I hope you enjoyed getting murdered by the worst D1 football team.

Iowa State MBB is an absolute mess right now. Going back to the Eustachy hire. Eustachy comes in and has a 15-15 year and follows it with years of 32-5 and 25-6. Largely in part to Floyd's boys. Keep in mind this was a fairly "smooth" coaching transition and Tim kept his hands in quite a bit player and recruiting wise to ease the transition. Then Larry follows with seasons of 12-19 and 17-14 before getting the boot. Enter Wayne Morgan. While he was "developing his talent" with players like Stinson, Blalock, Carr, Degand, Clark (ISU Legend), he was winning less games every year he was here (20, 19, 16). Enter GM. I was a big fan of the hire. Anyone else remember how he used to develop big men and get players to play above their talent level (Eric Coleman?). I've yet to see this sort of development with any of our players. Seemed like a lost cause with Jiri, not sure he was too "coachable." Craig is a good player, just not being properly utilized. I like DG as a gaurd. Eik could be a Jake Sullivan, Michael Nurse type player if you put people with drive and kick capabilities around him. I don't see a lack of basketball ability, I see a lack of energy, and leadership.

Leadership has been missing in this program for some time. Larry lost credibility and confidence after the Hampton debacle (cringe). Wayne let Stinson run the show and leadership should come from a coach not a player, thus why we were getting progressively worse. And under the McDermott regime there just seems to be a lack of identity and leadership. People can talk all they want about how it takes x amount of years to build a program, or teams occasionally come out flat, but my God we are Iowa State University. We have 2 regular season championships, 2 conference tournament championships, 5 NCAA tournament appearances, 4 second round appearances, 2 sweet 16 appearances, an elite 8, 2 NIT births reaching the second round in both cases and the final four in the latter, ALL IN THE LAST 12 YEARS! We have a new facility under construction and not to mention some of the best fans in the conference and nation.

One thing that every successful coach at ISU has had is pride. Tim and Johnny's teams came out and fought every night. They took pride in being Cyclones and even when they weren't playing well they were scrappy. We're the fans that applaud for 25 seconds of good defense, that love seeing big Kantrail Horton get on the floor, that love lanky Paul Shirley bumping elbows with some of the best big men in the country, that love the Jared Homan work ethic, the Cato blocks, that love the Dedric Willoughby dedication, the Hoiberg loyalty. These are just recent examples. I could go back years. What makes us mad is an apparent lack of pride and effort. You can come out flat against SDSU and win based on effort and toughness. Being soft, confused, weak, and slow is unacceptable by my standards.

This one is on coaching and leadership. Someone needs to step up and lead this team. Put them on your back. That HAS to start at the HC position and it's their job to instill that kind of leadership into a player or coach on the court if you will (CB). This is absolutely absurd.

This is a great post. My questions are off topic, but I want to make sure my memory hasn't failed me. 2 questions.........

1. Keep in mind this was a fairly "smooth" coaching transition and Tim kept his hands in quite a bit player and recruiting wise to ease the transition

Didn't we lose Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison as a result of the Floyd departure? That didn't ease the transition too much.

2.Eustachy comes in and has a 15-15 year and follows it with years of 32-5 and 25-6. Largely in part to Floyd's boys.

Wasn't there couple of kids by the names of Nurse, Tinsley and Horton somewhat important to that great 2 year run? That means year three, LE was responsible for 60% of the Starting line up and many believe he is the reason for Fizers acent.

Maybe this is where I can tie this post back to the meaning of the thread. In year two LE had already brought in a great backcourt. We are in year 3 of the McD era and there isn't one player that can hold the jock of Tinsley, Nurse or Horton.

Others have beaten UW-Mil and they are from the MVC like Creighton and UNI. Hey, we have a trendline like the recent football team. We are not oimproving as much as the opposition. Watch out for SDSU when they are on the road, their first year in Div 1. Gimme a break. Are we just going through the motions or the emotions of playing. Looks like motions.

I think you may have misunderstood me, I want McD gone as much as the next guy and I have given up hope for ISU bball until then. What I am trying to say is that calling for Pollards head as a result of this is unfair. The other guys we talked to all flopped, and Pollard could not have predicted the fallout of the last few years. I think he is doing a great job as an AD drumming up support and money, and he has been unfortunate to have his hires not pan out. Basically, it is my opinion that his job is to assess the pool of potential coaches, put what he feels to be the best fit in the coaches seat, and remove that coach from the seat if it does not work out. I feel he did the first 2 steps of this process, and he needs to act on step three sooner than later.

OK ladies and gentlemen, I am not typically a Cyclone fan that snaps a guitar string about supporting the C-nation. I am always saying "give them some time", "Look at the great recruits", "Be patient". But after the SDSU game last night I snapped. What an abysmal performance! How does a brand new D1 program come into Hilton Coliseum and beat a Big XII program that has been playing D1 basketball for decades? There is no excuse for this! This was the SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY JACK RABBITS. HELL OUR FOOTBALL TEAM BEAT THEM BY 27 POINTS!! I am sick and tired of hearing about rebuilding. We have three returning starters from last year plus Thompson, Haluska, Boozer, Lucca the shooting machine and others.... Folks, Hilton magic was escorted out the door with Larry E. and Mr. McD better find another way because there has been zero improvement in this program. Better athletes? Probably. Better play? Definitely not. How are we going to compete with Longhorns, Sooners, Tigers, Jayhawks, Buffaloes and Cornhuskers when we can even beat a crummy Jack Rabbit? A Jack Rabbit should be road kill for a real D1 team! OK, meltdown complete. Thanks

Looking at SDSU they have some quality wins and tough losses.

Minnesota beat them, Tubby's got his boys in the top 25
They got beat by UNI, who we beat
Drake beat them, Hey they are the best team in Iowa

They beat Mayville State by 31 (92-61)
A big win at Central Arkansas (72-67)
And the won a knuckle biter against Upper Iowa at home by 4

:jimlad:

We suck!

hahahahahaha:biglaugh:

What has happened to our football and basketball teams lately? Is it Pollard making horrible coaching choices? Seems to me that we got a fairly average football coach for a mountain of money. How is it that GMAC can do better at a 1aa school in the same State. Something just doesn't add up!

Because the Big 12 is a real conference. I know thats not an excuse for losing to SDSU, but thats the best excuse I could come up for him doing better at UNI. BTW UNI is a D1 school in basketball, football they are a 1aa school.

It felt good granted we had ten guys injured. How does it feel getting stomped by a new D1 basketball team? A D1 team that will follow its women right to the Top 25.

If you could read, the last 36 pages would tell you that

They probably all realize they are in over their heads too.

Coaching in a system is harder than letting the players play 'and1' style ball.

These assistants have a job, how are Wayne's assistant/ grad coaches doing? I am guessing some are working in Des Moines out of the coaching profession.:wideeyed:

The sixteen turnovers against the Jackrabbits is what I could not believe. That is a shabby performance. McD even said so.

How many wins does this staff have after 2.5 years compared to the previous staff?

I think Mac is a good coach, we just need players that are of the Big XII mold. Hopefully the two additions next year will provide the athleticism we are clearly missing.
