Well, Campbell was supposed to have given his Evals of each player to Rogers. Didn’t Campbell always say it was extremely difficult to win at ISU and you had to do more with less? Maybe he told Rogers that he was leaving him a MAC team?

That’s what Jamie said. I think he was just being petty and wanted Matt to see his new girlfriend on his way out the door. While I’m happy Jamie had a replacement ready to go, Jimmy Rogers was not a hot commodity. No one was going to steal him out from under us. He could have let Jimmy Rogers coach Washington State in their bowl game and name Heacock interim for ours.

Didn’t the players vote not to play in the bowl game?

Some of these guys will be giving up playing in front of 60,000 pumped up fans in Jack Trice Stadium... for playing in virtually a glorified high school stadium that is half full if they're lucky. Oh well.

If Matt truly was telling all the players that won't be following him to PSU to stay at ISU and keep it going there.... do you think 42 players would be leaving? I don't.

Probably not, but why would he do that? The best advice to any player is to meet the coaches and check their options and find the best fit for themselves.
Maybe Campbell told them all to leave
Maybe Rogers told them all to leave.
Maybe they don't like the new coaches.
Maybe they think they can get more money elsewhere.
Maybe all their closest friends left and they want to find a better spot.
Maybe they will still consider Iowa State but we're told by the new coaches to look around and find their best fit whether it is Iowa State or another place.

I would imagine the vast majority of us don't know the actual truth. Almost all of us (including me) jump to our own conclusions.

Nobody was hiring T.J. either in this scenario and look how that’s turned out. A coaching search would have just cost the university a lot of money for nothing when Jamie already had his man. Getting Roger’s hired immediately gave him an opportunity to get a head start on recruiting and gave him a huge opportunity to try and keep some of the roster intact. If Jamie had waited until after WSU bowl game, the whole roster could have entered the portal at that point with no chance of retaining anyone, not to mention the lost weeks of recruiting. And the players voted to not have a bowl. Having Heacock interim doesn’t help anything.

I’m fine with the CJR hire, not knowing much about him before this. I just wish JP would have waited a day or two to announce him but not a big deal. Let’s give him a chance

I'm very pissed at Campbell, as I've stated. It's not because he made a financial / business decision. It's not because he wants to go to a top program and win a NC. That is all very rational and I totally get it. If someone offered me a job tomorrow that was 2-3x my salary and a job I kind of wanted anyway, I'd be silly not to take it.

What I'm pissed about is all the crap about being our Bill Snyder or Ferentz. All the stuff about how he was "different."

Coaches are humans and say things in the moment that may look silly in the future. I'm sure Campbell genuinely loved his time at ISU; I don't doubt that. But you can't talk for 10 years about how you want to build a legacy / longevity at a place and then bolt for another program without damaging said legacy.

It's asking far too much, but I'd be less pissed if he just came out and said "I love Iowa State, I'm grateful for what they did for my career and my family. But my dream has always been to coach at a few select schools with the opportunity to win a NC. I'm leaving to pursue that dream."

Instead he came out with "This was such a hard decision to leave a place we loved so much. I need to be closer to family, etc etc." Just come out and say the truth. Stop trying to have it both ways. You saw a chance for more money and to win a NC so you took it. Good on you, but I no longer hold you in high esteem because that directly contradicts everything you've said for the past 10 years.

I thought he truly was different. He's not. I held him in much higher regard than a lot of modern coaches. Now, he's just another one in a long list.

Honest question. You would have preferred he had one foot out the door from day 1?

ISU can have 105 but currently we are still operating with 85 scholarships and 20 walkons.

Coleman 5* So Auburn (1.8 mil if you want him)

So, the question is how much money to you spend to replace the above?

I mean every game has video. Im sure the new staff has spent hours and hours reviewing every video there is of every game and player at this point. Just like they do for every recruit and transfer.

A couple posts in this thread mentioned PSU paying Rocco $3.5M and Brahmer $1.5M.

So both would be close to the top 25 in earners for 2025 (Rocco #7 and Brahmer just out of the top 25).

If PSU wants to blow their money like that then more power to them. This graphic should PROVE how overpaid these guys are for their results.

Plus he could have told them that about 50% won’t get a decent offer and will likely move down a level in competition. High risk in being a non star and entering the portal.
