Have fun at Illinois State traitor.

I'm very pissed at Campbell, as I've stated. It's not because he made a financial / business decision. It's not because he wants to go to a top program and win a NC. That is all very rational and I totally get it. If someone offered me a job tomorrow that was 2-3x my salary and a job I kind of wanted anyway, I'd be silly not to take it.

What I'm pissed about is all the crap about being our Bill Snyder or Ferentz. All the stuff about how he was "different."

Coaches are humans and say things in the moment that may look silly in the future. I'm sure Campbell genuinely loved his time at ISU; I don't doubt that. But you can't talk for 10 years about how you want to build a legacy / longevity at a place and then bolt for another program without damaging said legacy.

It's asking far too much, but I'd be less pissed if he just came out and said "I love Iowa State, I'm grateful for what they did for my career and my family. But my dream has always been to coach at a few select schools with the opportunity to win a NC. I'm leaving to pursue that dream."

Instead he came out with "This was such a hard decision to leave a place we loved so much. I need to be closer to family, etc etc." Just come out and say the truth. Stop trying to have it both ways. You saw a chance for more money and to win a NC so you took it. Good on you, but I no longer hold you in high esteem because that directly contradicts everything you've said for the past 10 years.

I thought he truly was different. He's not. I held him in much higher regard than a lot of modern coaches. Now, he's just another one in a long list.

Fred left for his dream job, some flamed him for that too.

If I am Coach Rogers, might not be terrible to lean into the legendary Dirty Thirty of 1959. (Although, I would believe it if youngsters could care less of old folk tales from yesteryear)

The new coaching staff had to tell guys to put their names in the portal and test the waters. I expected an exodus of players but 42 could also mean you pissed guys off out of the gate. Throw in this years seniors and we’re down 57 players.

Guys with clear paths to playing time are in the portal and it doesn’t make sense unless they were told to? I’m so confused—-why enter the portal if you are likely to play next year or your next best option is to transfer down a level and play for nothing? Penn State will end up with 10-12 guys and the rest will be at MAC/Sun Belt schools at best.

This hasn’t been brought up much, but with Rogers wanting to eventually get back to the Midwest - if ISU passed on Rogers there’s a chance he ends up at Iowa. If he has a successful run with ISU and KF’s successor takes a step back…there’s a what if for them.

Really? Anything is possible of course but a lot would have to happen for that to have occurred.

I just hope iowa does a national search. I'm worried they'll just give the job to Wallace.

Because agents don’t always have their client’s best interests in mind when giving advice.

Maybe the old coaching staff is encouraging them to transfer. Mouse wasn’t hired.

It’s really not any of our job to judge what’s on their heart.
Money. It's money. No heart or god involved.
Not that I care, by all means, grab it while it's available. I would.

*there are probably a few people caught up in this who are leaving because they actually just want playing time, got passed up, etc

I have a couple of kids in Ames and there are players they know that haven't played a down who are leaving.

This might be an unpopular take:

As nice as it has been to see Cyclone football success all JP has to do is avoid making the fanbase feel hopeless and avoid relegation (so ISU can afford a Top 25 basketball roster).

If Rogers flails for a couple years, get a new guy and start over. It’ll be fine.
