***Official portal tracker thread***

Let me be clear. I don't 'hate' anyone. I'm just stating a fact that for all his speak, he left for the things he never spoke about. And, if you read my post, I blame myself for being so gullible.
What does Chris Williams always say?... Coaches lie.

I'm at as place where I don't have to like what is going on but still appreciate MC for what he has done for our program.

He's lost 90% of our returning players. I'm not going to say he's going to be a failure, but you can't say that this is looking like a home run hire.
I’m not convinced 90% eventually leave. Campbell will take the starters and we’ll see what happens to the rest.

Of the 70 guys that left Washington State when Jimmy was hired

28 went lower level
14 went P5, not including Wake Forest
10 went back to Washington State
9 left football altogether
9 went to Wake Forest to follow their coach

That 2024 team was also, I'd argue, similar to Iowa State 2025. Incredible offensive players (John Mateer, Utah's starting RB, Arizona's #1 WR) yet finished just 8-5.
watching OU this season, I didn't come away impressed by Mateer. His mechanics were awful and looked like he was jump throwing or something.

Finally a reasonable response. Matt took over one of the worst programs in CFB and made us relevant for 10 years. Since 1920, we had 20 coaches. One of them had a winning record. The players leaving now came to ISU, in many cases, because of him. They know nothing about Jimmy and have a chance for a do over. And the ones being hated on are the guy who is our winningest coach who was loyal for 10 years and the players?

I think that's overplaying how bad we were under Rhoads. He had some good, respectable years. Didn't end well, but it's not like it was the bottom of CFB.

I'm not upset with Campbell for taking the PSU job. I am upset with the system that allows players to just up and leave whenever they want. If there was a sit out year, we wouldn't be seeing complete decimation of rosters. And, it's happening pretty much everywhere. We will know a lot more once we see where these ex-ISU players are going. If it's 20 players plus a majority of our recruiting class going to PSU, then that does tarnish Campbell's legacy some. If a good portion of the guys are going down a level or just chasing bags anywhere, then I have a little more sympathy.

From the 2500 posts in this thread, plus all other threads related to the coaching change, it appears there are 3 opinions.
- CMC screwed over ISU and should be reviled.
- JP screwed over CMC and should retire or be fired.
- It’s 2025/2026 and this is how college sports works. Neither JP or CMC is the bad guy.

I choose the latter and refuse to believe all the conspiracy theories. I also accept the decisions the players make, although it saddens me when that decision is to transfer.

The quick turnaround hire was done with the belief it would limit the mass transfer out.
That’s what Jamie said. I think he was just being petty and wanted Matt to see his new girlfriend on his way out the door. While I’m happy Jamie had a replacement ready to go, Jimmy Rogers was not a hot commodity. No one was going to steal him out from under us. He could have let Jimmy Rogers coach Washington State in their bowl game and name Heacock interim for ours.

Nobody was hiring T.J. either in this scenario and look how that’s turned out. A coaching search would have just cost the university a lot of money for nothing when Jamie already had his man. Getting Roger’s hired immediately gave him an opportunity to get a head start on recruiting and gave him a huge opportunity to try and keep some of the roster intact. If Jamie had waited until after WSU bowl game, the whole roster could have entered the portal at that point with no chance of retaining anyone, not to mention the lost weeks of recruiting. And the players voted to not have a bowl. Having Heacock interim doesn’t help anything.

This sounds great, however, I do believe back-alley negotiations happen regularly until the NCAA (or whatever) can get their act together. Revealing to the world, the next coach as early as possible offers several advantages: first, his lower salary suggests more NIL money, allows the incoming coach the extra time to hire his team which is paramount in recruiting out of the portal, and allow him more time to get comfortable in Ames. All said-and-done, JP did it the right way.

Agree with most of your comments, although, almost every good player has left anyway. Time will tell how the speed date hire will work out. I do think it was better than a long process / just not sure yet if the result will be any different.

Rhoads had a 26% conference winning percentage. Since Earle Bruce left in 1978, ISU had won 27% of conference games.

A couple posts in this thread mentioned PSU paying Rocco $3.5M and Brahmer $1.5M.

So both would be close to the top 25 in earners for 2025 (Rocco #7 and Brahmer just out of the top 25).

If PSU wants to blow their money like that then more power to them. This graphic should PROVE how overpaid these guys are for their results.

Another reason to get JFR on board was make sure we had a coach. Unlikely but there is the episode of Dana Altman to Arkansas.
