Reading thru that Phog thread yesterday just reinforced my opinion that they're the equivalent of hawkeye fans; one of them even said he lived in Des Moines and opined that ISU suffered from an inferiority complex as regards EIU & KU. Another suggested ISU was the eqivalent of KSU, like that's a negative! If I remember correctly, the KSU athletic department had the most wins / $ spent amongst all Division 1 schools last year...

I chalk it up (pun intended) on the age old "state universty of" thinks they're better than their "land grant" brethren. If they think churning out doctors, lawyers, english lit majors and social workers is more beneficial to the world than the scientists, engineers and agricultural professionals produced by ISU / KSU, there's really no hope for them...

One final thought on the topic regarding their exagerated sense of superiority. When it appeared the Big XII was going to implode, they were in the exact same boat we were - football rules and there were no power conferences courting KU. If I remember things correctly, the PAC 10 was interested in KSU and would have allowed KU to tag-along!

Postscript: Apologies to the doctors, lawyers, english lit majors and social workers in the crowd - I love you all and hopefully you'll forgive me...

I actually don't mind if a KU fan wants to talk about their history in basketball and the titles they won, as long as they note they haven't been recent. But ISU has the best fans anywhere, and they shouldn't run us down with their self entitled, blue shirt rental, support them only when they're winning, fanbase full of fools.

Those guys suck and can't hold a candle to ISU.

Winning the NC in 2008 is recent enough for it to be called recent.

I don't typically defend KU, but how is their success not considered recent?

Last outright conference regular season title: 2015
Last conference championship: 2013
Last national championship: 2008

A national title seven years ago means nothing in the evaluation of this year's team. This year's team isn't any better or more likely to win another because Mario Chalmers was able to sink a deep three at the end of regulation to force an overtime against a Memphis team that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in it. Is that making too fine a philosophical point out of it?

Except that's not what you said; you said it wasn't recent.

The problem that I have with KU fans is that many of them think that they are actually superior as a person because of the result of a game. (I know many KU fans in person that aren't like this, it is mostly the internet crowd.) Every person has a choice who they root for. Just choosing to root for KU doesn't change the kind of person you are. If I decided to change my allegiance tomorrow, would that make me instantly better? Unfortunately, many KU fans think it does.

The other thing is I tell KU fans that there is nothing that could happen to ever get me to be a fan of KU. There are some that seriously don't comprehend this. They think that being a KU fan is so much better that everyone should want to be one. It is quite comical sometimes.

It's good to be obsessed about. You don't see them obsessing about TCU or TTech. You didn't see them being obsessed with us when McDermott was here.

It means we're good and it means we are relevant.

I think your first paragraph could be said of a segment of every fan base, including ours unfortunately. The Internet message board tough guy routine has perpetuated this.

As fan Base lets stop picking fights with a basketball powerhouse like KU. Lets us enjoy our recent success and stop getting all cocky about it, we still don't have national championships. One day I dream under Fred we will have multiple titles, until that day shut up and be happy with where this program is at. Dont forget those horrible seasons we have been through.

The best thing about them, is they think Kansas is some huge metropolitan state. It's honestly hilarious. Kansas is like Alabama, or Arkansas.

While I'll agree with the first part, I'll disagree with your use of 'internet tough guy', and substitute internet smart-arse. The internet tough guys are the Texas fans who tweets stupid **** at their players, the internet smart-arse talks **** to opposing fans. There's a difference. Tough guy is deplorable, smart-arse is regrettable, but also laughable.

I'd be interested in some more definition on this...if you mean we shouldn't just assume we're going to win the conference and freak the heck out over every loss, I'd agree with you. If you mean we should keep quiet and look at our shoes while we walk because we haven't won a championship, I disagree.

They have been fairly recent actually. They won a nat. title, what, in 2008? Played for the title against Kentucky three years ago? Eleven straight reg season titles. Yeah, Kansas can brag. Iowa? No, they can't brag. Because nobody really cares that much about wrestling. They haven't done anything in football that ISU hasn't done in basketball in the last 30 years.

Recent, meaning relevant to the guys on this years team? Or recent by another standard, like the course of human history? Cmon, man. I didn't preface my comment well, but I was referring to the kind of T-shirt wearing KU fans who cite their historical titles as relevant to the present. You don't encounter those? Because I imagine we'll be hearing from them on the Phog.net tonight.
