NU HC John Cook will not be at the match - family matters in CA. Will it matter? What is the HC roll during the match?

It appears that John Cook's sister in California is in really bad health. Assistant coach and former Husker player Dani Busboom will serve as interim coach and their director of VB operations will also be a bench coach.

I know some people might focus on the 4th set, but I was hugely impressed with the first 3 sets. We were 1-2 against the 4th ranked team in the nation, and when we lost, it was only by 2 points. If we had played this well earlier, we would have beat Iowa and Marquette, easily. What I think I saw was a team that is starting to come together, that has a lot of talent, and was starting to show what we thought this team is capable of. However, we are still a notch below the big dogs, and have lots of work to do. But CJL has lots to work with.

I may be wrong, but I think coach was trying different things in the 4th set, and even later in the 3rd. Jess played much less and none in the 4th when I left. To me, Jess has that killer instinct that we need on this team. Appropriately, coach was looking at some different things, to be ready for the Big 12 opening. So, I am not criticizing, just observing.

Not a great day, but a good day.

And oh, what an incredible back row Nebby had.

Not sure why coach didn't get a TO in the 4th. Early. More than one. We just let the train roll down the tracks. You can't take that set away, but if you do, we played right with them. We just came out so tight for the 4th. Crap.

We played so well in the first three sets, some of the best volleyball we've played. But there are times when you have to terminate some kills. We just don't hit with the velocity we should at times. Their shots were like an airbag going off in your car, ours were half speed. We have to practice faster. Are they really #4? Don't know, but we'll find out. I think we can be even better.

We had them 20-20 in one of the close lost sets, and we just made mistakes. Mainly Harris. You can't do it when you have them on the ropes. We have to learn to finish. Good effort, can't fault that. Just mental stuff, where we have to hit the court and put the ball in play to give ourselves a chance. I feel like we really missed an opportunity.

Is this sarcasm? I hope so. This is Nebraska, as in 4th-ranked Nebraska. This sure was a bigger match than any in the Big 12, outside of maybe Texas...

I also left before the fourth so maybe that's what changed, ha. Was hoping we could at least take a set from Nebby, and in the end we should have been able to close out the first and third. Was glad to see us that competitive against such a high caliber team.

I'm more concerned with the dumb mental mistakes that cost us two of the first three sets! We would be right there and then make a handful of dumb errors in a row.

Absolutely! Good Coaches say "you need to play like you practice" and great programs eliminate mistakes through exacting preparation to become competitive. So far we shown shades of having talent but we need to get rid of the mistakes and tighten our play.

I have not been to any of our practices, St.Clone. So, how are they run; I'm interested to know. Did you see something there that suggests we would not be ready for Nebby?

No, I thought we were ready to beat Nebraskagolia and we looked darn good at times. My post was in generalities of practice and in-game play after the loss. I think practices are closed so mine would no more informed than any other fans'.
