Can a non-resident acquire a permit that allows him/her to purchase firearms at an auction in Iowa? If so, how would one go about getting that permit?

I will be contacting the State of iowa on this issue but would like to hear any advice on the sibject.

Thanks in advance.

Do not believe a non-resident of Iowa (or any State for that matter) can purchase a firearm within the state. You could settle on a purchase price, then the firearm would have to be shipped from the seller to the State you reside in, but not to you. The seller will need to have a federal firearms license, or access to someone who has (typically a dealer who will likely charge a fee), and they will have to send it to another federally licensed dealer/individual in the State you reside.

Your cost would be the fee the dealer charges you on your end, the shipping, and then the cost of the firearm itself.

Before any purchase, you would (of course) have to satisfy all the requirements of the state you reside in before purchasing any firearm. In Iowa, the permit to purchase is at the discretion of the county sheriff.(as said before)

Are you talking about a handgun or a long gun?

Pretty sure you can buy a rifle or shotgun even from an FFL out of state.

Handgun you would need to have it shipped to an FFL in your state.

Firearms permits are at the discretion of the county sheriff. I don't think as a non resident they will license you.

Info here

A permit is only necessary if it's a handgun. Purchasing a handgun has never been at the discretion of the county sheriff. They used to have discretion on carry permits but Iowa is now a shall issue state meaning if you meet all the requirements for obtaining a permit to carry they must issue it to you.

Thanks for the responses. It was what I anticipated but O was hoping someone had a loophole for a law abiding non-resident.
