Tyler Nielsen from Humboldt has evidently commited to Iowa along with his teammate Cody Hundermart. I was hoping ISU would get one of these kids given that Humboldt is only a hour and a half from Ames.

I think when it's all said and done, we will most likely lose all 5 top recruits in-state to Iowa. We have a ways to go to get to the national level their program has gotten to. I don't like Iowa but admire their football program for it's consistency given it's location and fanbase;)

It seems at time we get the leftovers, that's for sure. In my opinion the Duncun, Criner, and Walden years really set us back big time. McCarney has made strides but sitll is fighting an uphill battle.........if only ISU could have won back to back North championships to give him recruiting bragging rights. I dislike Iowa too but also envious.

When a kid grows up liking Iowa Like we like ISU.. It's hard to convince them to go to ISU when they are offered by Iowa... It is the same thing when ISU offers a kid that grew up a state fan... The only one I see with no real allegiance is Bernstein and I don't think he will be at Iowa or Iowa State.. Somthing tells me he is looking even bigger than that..

It's all about tradition, and Iowa has us thoroughly pinned in that respect. It takes years, maybe even decades, to overthrow a dynasty like that.

Last year we got the majority of the top 10 recruits in Iowa. It's a yearly thing that is in no way a real reflection of where each program stands. 10 years ago yes - now, no. I'd be surprised if either of them turns into an all Big-10 player anyway.

I understand we got the majority of Iowa kids, but according to my Hawkeye boss, Iowa only offered one scholorship to a Iowa prep last year and that was Arnaud who of course went to ISU.

Drew: both kids from Humboldt came from families that are ISU fans. The problem with recruiting in state kids is that we do not have a marquee season behind us. Mac had the opportunity the last two years, but frittered it away. If you were a top recruit in the state of Iowa, you would also be hard pressed to go to ISU over Iowa based on the coaches recent season and bowl game results. BTW, the same thing can be said for the Brodell kid from Ankeny, i.e. ISU parents.

I don't know it that's true but think of it this way, why offer if a kid says I'm going to Iowa State? We can spin it any way we want and so can they. Tell your boss that we beat him pretty bad with Iowa kids last year that I'm sure Iowa wasn't interested in. **** him!

The Sandeman kid came from a Cyclone family. One of his parents is a ISU graduate along with other relatives who are ISU graduates. Regardless, there certainly was more of a ISU connection than Iowa. Simply put, the Iowa tradition, fan base, won out over the good guys.

Iowa fans can be as snooty as they want. Every year D-Mac wil just lead in another group of pissed-off Iowans to smack them around.

All 3 of the kids claim to have grown up Iowa fans and the two Humboldt kids have sisters at Iowa..... that certainly makes an impact.

don't mind losing Sandeman as we are loaded at receiver, but I would've loved getting the DT.

Don't know where the idea was from that either two Humboldt kids came from families that were fans of ISU. Siimply not true!!! Especially one of the families has little if anything positivie to say about ISU at all, athletically or in any other aspect. It is almost too bad McCarney even offered them because there is no way they were headed to ISU and gives the Hawkeye fans a chance to say become even bigger egotists.

I do not know about Brodell's family, but he grew up an Iowa fan. He was dying to get an offer from Iowa, that is the school he really wanted to play for.

the Almighty television is a great influence, especially if a team is on TV every single week.

I worked with a guy who is 28. Gues what his favorite teams are?

Hawkeyes
Bulls
Cubs
Bears
Lakers

He is a product of the 80's & 90's, and likes a team who is on TV. Of course--not him nor any family member ever attended Iowa

In hindsight the loss of Brodell to Iowa means very very little. I don't think he could play much with our core of receivers.

I think this is more a year-to-year thing. In the last couple of years ISU has pulled most of the top recruits and this year the Hawks raked up. The pendulum will swing our way again, don't worry! Plus, not every recruit pans out either.

How many quality recruits come from Iowa anyway? ISU gets all the recruits when the state of iowa has a down year in quality recruits because the university of iowa is recruiting in florida or texas or some where else where there are many more quality recruits. Yes, ISU got Meyer but nobody recruited him out of high school anyway and we did get blythe. What other studs from the state of Iowa has there been recently? Scales hasn't done anything yet so I wouldn't call that a steal by any means. This year there are quality recruits in the state of iowa so the university of iowa will go after them and get them of course. Coach Mac and others might brag about winning in state battles for recruits but when the recruits are only 2 stars or 3 stars the university of Iowa doesn't care because they are busy getting 3 star or 4 star or even 5 star from other states. The university of Iowa does it very smart. Why worry about winning an in state battle for a bunch of 2 star or 3 star athletes when you can go some where else and get studs that will win you conference titles and play in bowl games after the 1st of January? Personally if Coach Mac is such a great recruiter that he is cracked up to be why doesn't he go after better players? He's been here for over 10 years now. The ISU fans and alumni deserve nothing but the best, and that includes the best athletes out there on the field. Coach Mac works wonders with the players he has. If he can do what he's done with the 2 stars and 3 stars he has on the roster now why doesn't he go after better players. Imagine what he could do with a roster full of 4 star athletes like what Iowa has.

I would have never played for Iowa period. Would I have played for Isu, well i didnt go there right off, so no, maybe not if a really good team came calling. I have always been a huge clone fan, and many of these kids have always been huge hawk fans. I would have much prefered to go to Neb, or Minni, than Iowa anyday, and its kind of how it works with these kids too. I have heard nothing but these guys are hawk families, hawk fans. A huge part of that comes from the Television deal spoke of above. The day that pollard was introduced I called him to address the issue. Unfortunately we are tied into this craporama right now, but hopefully in 2 more years... Anyways, go to a local bar, church, softball league, workplace, and ask how many are hawks and how many cyclones. You are almost guarenteed a 60-75% hawk lean. Then ask who went to thier respective school. Of the hawks about 10-35% will have gone there, while on the clone side 80-100% went to ISU. these are all just numbers from my personal poling, but I think it is pretty accurate. The cubs are america's team because they are/ or used to be, the only team on every day when every one got home from school. And when you are a kid on sat, and the only thing on is the hawks, guess who you watch?
