Next Years Team

Poor shooting percentage and getting beat on the glass were why we lost most of our games. I love the "green light" to take 3's, but a lot of them were not warranted and often times we didn't have guys in position to get offensive rebounds..Hoping next year we can get more drives to the bucket to create foul shot and put back opportunities. I'm interested to see how Williams, Burton and Cooke are used. Deonte looks explosive as ****.

You should be attacked for it. I bet you were a big "not sweating enough" guy. Hogue played with the chip on his shoulder you ask for. Don't be a little ***** just because he didnt put up the numbers you wanted.

His body language tells me that he's that sort of poster.

It would be good if people could get away from the "I'm glad to see that guy gone" posts. We've had those all season long from knee-jerk people, and it's a disgrace.

I hope Hallice Cooke can give this team consistency at the two next year. Naz and Matt are such streaky shooters; you just never know what they are going to give you. I also hope we can land a physical player at the four. If not Diallo then a transfer who can help McKay rebound and control the paint. If those two things happen, next year's team will be a better squad.

Didn't often show up? LMAO. There is that CF fantasy world again.

Teams don't show up. It happens, although very rarely under Hoiberg. The fact is, we don't have the talent in which we can deviate far from our best and always win. The talent level between ISU and UAB was close enough that not making shots was going to be a problem. That team has much better rebounding talent than we do.

The fact we win so often is a hell of a job by the players and staff. We lose to maybe two or three teams every year that has tangibly less talent. That is better than almost any other program. It sucks it happened today but CF has gotten spoiled.

These weren't normal losses. These weren't like year's past. Fred generally gets the most out of his team and that's wonderful, but today I saw a team that didn't box out. Not struggled to get rebounds, but did not box out. I saw a team that took shots they know are low percentage shots. I also saw a guy with all-american and NBA talent play five minutes.

But if you want to say every team has losses like this, go for it.

We have 3 all conference players, that's a lot of talent and a good reason why we were seeded where we were. To say "our talent level is way overrated on here" sounds like an overreaction to a bad loss.

Many have been saying it all year, we just refused to listen and preferred to challenge heart and effort. We have shot-making talent. There is more types of talent than that. When you miss shots you normally make, then what?

Top level production is not top level talent. We have players that excel in spots the coaches put them in.

I'm personally hoping Matt just rounds out his game. He's closer to be a really good player than some realize, IMO.

So when Duke gets blown out at home is it a talent issue as well?

Who on this board has been overstating our talent? We have 3 all conference players, that's a lot of talent and a good reason why we were seeded where we were. To say "our talent level is way overrated on here" sounds like an overreaction to a bad loss.

Maybe, or maybe the players look good because Fred knows what to do. I think Fred is an amazing coach makes "good" players look great! If Fred lands a great player, then most likely he will make that player shine. You watch.

Was thinking this today. He can actually create his own shot, I hope he works on that and uses it. His D is another issue, but he's def closer than people think.

Sweet Mother of Reality! Well said.

Why can't people accept that Fred and the players have some weaknesses like 99.9% of the rest of the world? A few imperfections in basketball execution were just "off" with the team this year. Fred's a top 10 coach, no doubt about it, I'm glad he's true to himself and keeps his team always believing. This team just seemed to lack some of the physical ability to cover weaknesses. Maybe our new guys coming in are what is needed for Fred to take teams further in the future.

FIFY.

Why can't people accept that Fred and the players aren't untouchable? Something was just "off" with the team this year. Fred's a top 10 coach, no doubt about it, but sometimes I wish he'd get just a bit mad. This team just seemd to lack discipline. Maybe this is what is needed for Fred to take teams further in the future.

Bingo. This team lacks discipline. I agree with that. Fred gets the talent, and kinda lets them do what they want. It really is playground ball with spacing. Which works fine when shots are falling and you can run. But when a team slows it down on you, and you don't hit your shots, then you're in BIG trouble.

A really good team can rely on it's defense, rebounding, hustle, etc when shots aren't falling and still win games. We can't. It is a glaring weakness with this team, and I'm not sure Fred is able to coach discipline or effort?

I think in that 2nd half today, I would have told BDJ..... "I'm going to put you back in, and all I want you to do is crash the boards and get us a ton of rebounds.... and if you don't rebound and just jack up bad shots, I'm going to sit you again right here on the bench next to me.".

We desperately needed rebounds today, and BDJ is one of our better rebounders. Either that, or stick Edozie in there and tell him to bang some people around and grab some boards for us since nobody else will. Something.... anything.... needed to be done. But instead.... nothing. Just jacking up 3's, missing them, and getting no boards.

They weren't normal, that is the point. "Often didn't show up". Lol.

Our talent is using a system to get looks and make shots. UAB has more rebounding talent. Sucks our shots didn't fall, but all but a few teams have a few loses (or more) like this. Those teams have elite talent.

You would be an idiot to say otherwise. Go for it.

What rebounding talent do they have that causes our guys to not box out at all and have zero positioning on the boards? Please, explain.

Does Fred know what he's missing by not hiring you?

Agree with you on this. Playing ball throughout my life, I was always coached that if you box out correctly, height doesn't really matter in rebounding.

We play almost exclusively man to man defense. That means, when a shot goes up by the opposition, we should have one of our guys guarding every one of their guys. All you have to do is turn and put a body on them with your arms out and back them up about 5 feet. It's entirely about effort and desire.

I didn't see any of our guys putting a body on any of their guys. They just were going right around us. That is just being lazy and not wanting it more. Sorry. Sometimes we just need to man up and admit what we see, and that is what happened out there today.

So when Duke gets blown out at home is it a talent issue as well?

Did Duke have no McD AA and 5-stars, no NBA draft picks, while being outsized with less athleticism and picked for 5th or below?
If so, then probably. Makes the work this staff does even better. Lose at home by 20 to less talent? Not under Hoiberg.

Like I said, every team but a select few will have losses to teams that have less talent. Sucks one of ours came today, but our talents (shooting) didn't travel as well as our weaknesses.

Does Fred know what he's missing by not hiring you?

No.

I'd just like to see something different tried when what you're doing isn't working. But instead, we never changed anything up at all. Kept jacking 3's, even though nobody was hitting. Kept having Niang go one on 3.

I just didn't see any coaching adjustments at all, and the ones we did see were kind of baffling.... like not staying with the hot hand of Matty Ice when he was the only one hitting shots? Not pressuring more on defense to mix it up a bit? Puzzling.

I feel Fred needs to incorporate some sort of press that we can throw out there periodically through games. With how well we convert turnovers into buckets I like our chances for this to be effective at times. We may give up a few easy buckets but that's why we have a high powered offense (the ability to come back when down 10+). Besides we had trouble stopping teams in the half court D anyways. We might as well play a D that will occasionally force turnovers on inexperienced guards..
