Return from Rehab

Cooked for real for the first time in 50 days. NY Strip Tagliata, Tonatto, Haricot Verts, Crispy Red Potatoes day 1, Char Grilled Swordfish Fish Steaks in a Lemon Basil Buerre Blanc, and grilled asparagus day 2, Grilled Cauliflower Steaks and Tonnato with sauteed yellow squash and zucchini day 3, and Blackened Shrimp and Grits with seared scallops with Lemon Basil Buerre Blanc day 4.

The Buerre Blanc requires 3/4 cups of Pinot Grigio along with white wine vinegar and shallots... 2 cups of liquid reduced to 2 Tbls. Then I poured the rest of the bottle down the drain.

I can't remember the last time I cooked without drinking, and I never poured almost a whole bottle of wine down the drain. It felt really good to do both.

60 days today

Damn are you a chef? That food looks amazing! If so double good luck on your journey, from what little 2nd hand knowledge I have the restaurant biz is kind of a party vibe.

I've definitely cut back the last year or so. Mainly for health reasons. I used to have a drink each night of the week. When I went in for a doctor check-up, they had me do a survey of how many drinks per week. 5-7 drinks per week was far enough down the list that I realized I needed to cut back. I also realized my sleep score would dip down, even if I had one drink.

I realized I didn't really need the alcohol and would get an N/A beer or a diet coke when I was out with others. Plus, saved money when going out for dinner by not getting an alcoholic drink.

Also, alcohol is Group 1 carcinogen, which is the same group as asbestos and tobacco.

Just at home and some dinner parties, but I do 90% of the cooking at home. I worried everyone would starve while I was in Rehab
