Next Years Team

Ok, This team was too flawed to go far. I see it now, I have passed to the acceptance stage. It is just basketball anyway, sucks this team will be defined by this one game, but that is how this tournament works. We thought they were peaking at the right time, but really, the tournament comes down to matchups, effort, and some luck. None of that was on our side today.

What new faces are we looking at next year? Would love to hear some analysis.

I hope Burton isnt afraid to attack the rim. We need more attack when the 3s aren't falling.
 
Next years team has top to bottom more talent than we have ever had. Hopefully this loss hurts enough for them to get it next year. Also kentucky wont be quite as good. We could go deep if this team plays hard from the opening tip.
 
Hopefully Hoiberg goes out and gets a coach who can teach defense and how to box out.
 
Pretty Much The Same As This Year Just Without Hogue and BDJ. I really don't even want to think about it because I'm afraid to think what could happen. Could be the best team in ISU history or could be the biggest disappointment in ISU history. just don't know

We will be deep, but I'm not sure we have any "elite" players that can physically take over ala Fizer/Tinsley.

I hope we can upgrade at the 3 and 2 over what we had this year.

No offense to Naz and Hogue, but they disappeared offensively quite often this year and they aren't good defenders.

More than anything, I was disappointed in Hogue's lack of rebounding this year.

Obviously we have Morris, Niang and McKay, which should give you a good core group, but it would be nice to upgrade over Naz and Nader if we really want to make a deep run.

Maybe Cooke, Burton and Williams will give us what we're looking for at the 2 and 3.
 
Top to bottom more talent. I personally wish Fred would go a bit deeper in the bench and get more aggressive defensively.

Naz ain't going anywhere...
 
This team had a great attitude all later part of this season IMO. But I think the Big12 was so tough this year we beat the **** out of each other in conference.

The Big12 is now 0-3 in the tournament, all three (ISU BU and UT) looked gassed by the second half.

There was just no tread left on the tires after that season.

And I'm heading off of Cyclone Fanatic again. Can't even avoid the horrible attitudes in a thread about next year. Thought I might get lucky and find some rational people, but I guess we all need more of a break.

Sorry but its not poor attitude. I understand you are frustrated. I am too. But they have shown tremendous heart and positive attitude over this season. His else do you explain the last several comebacks? They just have some pretty significant holes that were exposed. The margin for error was slim and it bit them in the butts.

I'm not saying he is, but if he's starting next year, you have a limited player at the 2 spot. That's a problem if you're talking about a Final Four run.

He's too inconsistent from 3, and can't defend well.

He's a great 6th/7th man, but he's not a starter on 90% of Final Four teams in the last 30 years.

The team is defined however you want to define it. Still a great season. I'm not going to let one bad game ruin that for myself. I'd take this year over 90% of the seasons we've had in my lifetime.
 
Next year's seniors (Niang, McKay, Long, Nader) won't tolerate any BS (i.e. selfish play leading to bad chemistry), it's their last chance to make history as a unit.

With that said, I think Fred keeps upgrading the overall talent of players coming into the program and will have our best team under Fred next season.

I disagree. I still love how the guys played at times, but if you look back this year, we had major opportunities that were in front of us, and the team flopped. Hell, players even ADMITTED to this. Something was off in that locker room this year.

Players admitted after a few of the terrible losses that they thought they could just show up and win.

I don't buy this excuse. Other leagues have been very strong in recent years and have gone on to far more success in the tourney.

The B12 has been flat out BAD for over a decade in the NCAA tournament.

It's not a one or two year anomaly. It's a trend.
