New Recruits! Changing your mind?

If we add a couple more 3 star kids In the next couple weeks we will jump to around 80th or so. Still. It good enough but my guess is we will prob move closer to the top 70 by end of the year. And...sometimes jucos ain't graded til the end too.

No, 70-80 isn't good enough, and it's even poor by Rhoads' previous history. There is no way ISU can hope to be anything but a bottom dweller in a P5 conference with classes like this.

Fuente from Memphis would be a huge get for ISU. It has been reported in many places that he has strong recruiting ties to TX and OK, which is precisely what ISU needs as long as ISU is in the Big 12.

Waiting to see for what? A 1-4 win season?

If that is what happens, then it happens, and JP will make the decision at that time. So be it.

That is the proper time to do it. And that is when it will be done.

So we just get a recruit that is a 3-star..a 5.5 rated (lowest rating for 3-star, on the cusp of only being a 2-star) and we think that may be enough to let Rhoads keep his job? Wow.

We are ranked damn near 100 out of like 130 for recruiting and you all think that's going to get it done? I know some think that rankings don't mean anything..but those people just don't look at the proven data. Team recruiting rankings correlate very well to team performance. If we continue to recruit as the worse P5 team in the nation, we will keep being one of the worst P5 teams in the nation. No way around it.

So to answer you're question, no. Even if we nab a top 10 player, it wouldn't change my mind. Rhoads needs to go. And if we lose to KU, he should be fired before he even steps off the field.

Memphis recruiting class has 11 recruits and has a lower star rating per recruit than we do.

I feel like many are starting to find any little excuse to keep Rhoads.

That's what it looks like with some. IMO If you're going to make the change, you have to be all in. If you're not all in, you shouldn't be making the change. You may have to take a step back and risk losing a few recruits in favor of hopefully securing someone who can take you higher than where you are now.

It's the same battle many on the other sidelines in this state have been fighting.

I believe that people should be looking at it the same way Pollard does. He often says that he evaluates coaches at the end of the season. We made the commitment to stay the course for this season at the end of last season so let it play out before evaluating. I'm not terribly hopeful that we are going to see a miraculous turnaround, but we aren't going to get our new coach before the start of next season anyway, we might as well see how this season goes.

My 0.02

Our physical talent is not improving under Rhoads. Other than the linebacker position, it seems like no one has improved from their first time playing for Iowa State to their last time.

Seems like our most talented guys are JUCO's.

Seriously...who's the last non-linebacker you've seen under Rhoads that you can say: "He is so much better now than he was then" JUCO's don't count.

Go back and look at the "good" years--year 1-4 under Rhoads.

We won close games.

We now lose close games.

Our point differentials and things haven't changed all that much.

Not the easiest thing to somehow fix, I guess, however. :(

Don't develop players from freshman to senior years. I am to the point where I think it won't matter where our class ranks because they will be the same player 4 years from now that they are right now.

Not really making excuses for keeping Rhoads. You have already made the decision to fire CPR. The three of us are taking a wait and see approach and are letting the season play out.

That is the difference. And you just can't accept that people are still wanting to see what happens during the rest of this season before making a decision.

Rhoads can't do much with current good players. Why would he be able to do anything with future good players?

I'd like to see real imorovemtn the remainder of this year. Both of our losses were lost at the end. We aren't far from winning games. If we can pick up 3 or so wins and are competitive in all but OU, Baylor, and TCU then I could see him returning.

But really, it isn't about the number of wins but rather what I see on the field.

It goes by total number of points earned in a recruiting class. Our number of recruits signed this year will not be high, so the likelihood of this class not being ranked very high is quite likely. Now add in the fact that we will not likely have the highly ranked recruit like a Lazard that will inflate our ranking.

IMO, the type of recruits we have gotten so far are pretty decent for ISU. We seem to be going after CB's that are a little bigger than the small CB's that we have had in the past. I like the addition of Jamahl Johnson at DT even though he does not have the P5 offers. He seems to have the strength and quickness and is an under the radar type guy. Our talent level seems to be rising since we see an awful lot of RS Frosh and RS Sophs in our 2-deeps. Of course this could also be attributed to problems in earlier recruiting classes.

Not sure how JP will evaluate CPR's situation. It is entirely possible that CPR could be retained with 3 conference wins and a 4-8 record. We have had 2 close losses that could have easily been wins. And it will come down to how this team performs and if we get that big upset or two that might happen. That is why we play out the season. On the flip side, if we lose to Kansas, then CPR is pretty much a dead man walking. Even if we beat Kansas and no one else, JP will likely pull the plug on CPR. Easier to sell the unknown new coach.

As far as recruiting goes, I believe that a coaching change might make a difference. At the same time, ISU seems to go after recruits in selling the positive attributes of ISU as a university and being a good fit for the athlete academically, personally, and athletically. So if a new coaching staff were brought in they would certainly have the opportunity to sell themselves to the recruits we presently have committed.

In a month, we will be saying two conference wins and he stays. He improved 50 per cent from the year before.
