So by seeing the new commits we have had this past week, it made me think if I would change my decision on how many wins I would accept for Rhoads to stick around. My original thought was bowl game, then after this 1-2 start I have said at least 3 conference wins and I think he will stick around 1 more year. Now seeing the recruits we have picked up this past week, will they leave if he gets fired? That is the only thing that sucks is how much further will fall before getting back to at least where we are now which isn't good.

So my question is!! Has this weeks recruits changed your mind any in wanting CPR stick around instead of the possibility of losing these guys?

No. My frustration is not in our recruiting as I think our physical talent level has risen under CPR. It is lack of perpetration and poor game planning that drives me crazy.

I believe that the current recruiting class is presently ranked in the 100's. For a Power 5 team, that's like being below rock bottom...

Recruits prove nothing to me. It's great that they are suddenly coming. That doesn't say anything about Rhoads' ability to coach and develop them, though.

Do you understand?

I understand perfectly! Maybe the blind man would have better luck with cars that don't begin with the letter F?

I am not sure if there is a number for me -- we need to see something out of the team on the field. Surely we need to win several games in the conference, which by the way we haven't done a lot of yet for over two years.

But we can't win 3 games and in all the rest look like, for instance, KU has looked in the first 3 weeks this year.

The team has to show they are competitive and showing progress -- that they belong playing in this conference. I want my team to look like they are COMPETING, like what I see out of other major college football teams when I see a random game on the TV. I hate watching CFB games and thinking, "man, I wish the Cyclones could play like this."

Nah- we're solid there.

It goes by total number of points earned in a recruiting class. Our number of recruits signed this year will not be high, so the likelihood of this class not being ranked very high is quite likely. Now add in the fact that we will not likely have the highly ranked recruit like a Lazard that will inflate our ranking.

IMO, the type of recruits we have gotten so far are pretty decent for ISU. We seem to be going after CB's that are a little bigger than the small CB's that we have had in the past. I like the addition of Jamahl Johnson at DT even though he does not have the P5 offers. He seems to have the strength and quickness and is an under the radar type guy. Our talent level seems to be rising since we see an awful lot of RS Frosh and RS Sophs in our 2-deeps. Of course this could also be attributed to problems in earlier recruiting classes.

Not sure how JP will evaluate CPR's situation. It is entirely possible that CPR could be retained with 3 conference wins and a 4-8 record. We have had 2 close losses that could have easily been wins. And it will come down to how this team performs and if we get that big upset or two that might happen. That is why we play out the season. On the flip side, if we lose to Kansas, then CPR is pretty much a dead man walking. Even if we beat Kansas and no one else, JP will likely pull the plug on CPR. Easier to sell the unknown new coach.

As far as recruiting goes, I believe that a coaching change might make a difference. At the same time, ISU seems to go after recruits in selling the positive attributes of ISU as a university and being a good fit for the athlete academically, personally, and athletically. So if a new coaching staff were brought in they would certainly have the opportunity to sell themselves to the recruits we presently have committed.

I feel like many are starting to find any little excuse to keep Rhoads.

Not really making excuses for keeping Rhoads. You have already made the decision to fire CPR. The rest of us are taking a wait and see approach and are letting the season play out.

That is the difference. And you just can't accept that people are still wanting to see what happens during the rest of this season before making a decision.

That's why we have to get a current HC, like a Fuentes for example, as they will likely bring some of their recruits as well...just naturally happens that way. Sure we may lose some but will gain some as well if we being in a HC. An Asst? Not so much.

Agree with this. I would say so far our class is shaping up the way they all do. And they all finish at the bottom 2 of the conference (thank you Kansas) and the bottom 3-4 of the Power 5 (thanks Colorado). We'll fill in with some hyped up juco's, some of whom will contribute and some of whom won't.

I do believe the last few recruits look like players. But you can't have recruiting classes of 25 guys and have about 10 worthy of playing in the B12. That's what we do. And then we combine it with poor development and guys transferring out. The result is that we start each season with about 30 guys on the roster we can play B12 football with. As soon as an injury happens, we're screwed. No margin of error whatsoever.

Someone mentioned our ranking is around 104th...which is true but it won't be there by Feb. once again we will have a small class. If we add a couple more 3 star kids In the next couple weeks we will jump to around 80th or so. Still. It good enough but my guess is we will prob move closer to the top 70 by end of the year. And...sometimes jucos ain't graded til the end too. One thing I just wanted to add is in another post we got to talking about how ISU is at a huge disadvantage in recruiting(CPR has said so much as well) due to the cost of flying and getting kids and their parents to fly into DSM. Well this kid drove up with his parents. Dallas to Ames is 11 hours as well. Just sayin.

Getting kids to commit means next to nothing. Why? Because our recruiting classes are some of the worst in the P5. That hasn't and isn't changing with these latest commits.

Waiting to see for what? A 1-4 win season?
