New Lighting in Hilton

To be clear I was responding to someone asking questions about me saying I installed LED lights at another arena. At that arena they are all gone and only LED lights remain. I don't know what happened at Hilton.
I know people are resistant to change, but they did this for very good reasons.
The old lights are never coming back, no matter how much you miss them.
I was in the lower level on Sunday and it wasn't really that noticeable. Might be a bit darker in the upper deck. I think the real difference is on TV and I'm pretty sure that's the way they wanted it. The crowd might not be as visible, but the action on the floor will look better.

I would think it might be the opposite. I feel like the darkness could bring more anonymity which could actually have fans be more inclined to act crazy. I mean, look at cause and effect of anonymity in social media...
For fans in the colliseum I could see this being where the balcony likes it and sees improvement(same small can lighting up there, improved court visibility). Whereas, the lower levels may feel the opposite(less light bleeding from court lights for dimmer seats but much closer to the brighter/harsher? court lighting)
I fall in the balcony catagory and really like it.
Also, I see where a fair amount of the new lights weren't in use and they can probably expand the lighting footprint out if they every need to. Or, maybe some of those are pointed at player entrance for intros. A spotlight-ish setup possibly? I'll be interested to hear what they do for the opener and get your guy's feedback as I can't make it. I would bet they saved all of the cool new stuff like that for the first real game.
Hilton gets used for more than basketball so yes, there are some lights that wouldn't be used when just trying to light the court but would be used for events like hockey where the playing surface takes up essentially the whole floor. They also probably have lights to light up the seating sections as well so they can continue to do events like the All State Music Festival or whatever it is called.
I sit in the arena circle, 2nd row. My opinion is I'm not a fan because they are blinding. Need a hat, or sunglasses, to watch from my seats now. Hopefully they can play a little bit with them and get them out of the fans eyes that are down close.

Good luck with that. For TV they want 360 degree lighting for every spot on the floor. That means that the sideline nearest you is being lit from all angles including from clear across the arena from you. It is practically impossible to light a ball that is being shot by a player on the sidelines and not also be lighting the first few rows of spectators who are so close to the court.
Sounds as if this issue is somewhat subject, but personally I have not spoken to anyone who likes the fact the upper level is dark. It is a great strategy for poorly attended programs, but a poor idea for Hilton. Everyone I know believes it appears as if the designers had little or no appreciation for the magic and emotion that emanates from seeing Hilton packed to the rafters with dedicated fans and fanatics. Overall, if a group was determined to undermine the intangible aspect we have come to know as Hilton Magic, I would say this change seems to represent a good first step. In summary, I would say take away the dungeon and bring back the Magic!
The upper deck has the exact same amount of illumination as years past. The lights in the center of the building never illuminated up there anyway, there are smaller can lights that provide light for the upper deck that are still on the entire time.

No it's not really that dark up there. I'm row 15 and it really isn't that much different, to me it seemed harder to identify people in other section, when you're looking for people you know. The thing I didn't like was for my women's seats Rw 8 parquet if you look up wrong the new lights are really bright on your eyes.
If the players are happy I'm happy, the 3 ball went down well in both games so I guess they are adjusting ok.
I always loved being able to see everyone in unisom enjoying a great moment at Hilton. I haven't seen it with the new lighting, but it does look better in pictures.
Several people complained about the reflection off my balding head. I will wear a hat to the next game .

When Hilton first opened, the mercury vapor lights were bright enough that national tv broadcast crews did not have to bring in additional lighting for color tv, which they did have to do at many arenas. It will be interesting to see when ISU has it's first ESPN broadcast if they have to add additional lighting, or maybe there is a way for them to adjust the new fixtures.

I believe some of the issue with respect to Cyclone.Tv broadcast was improper white balance on the camera. I noticed this particularly with the women's game with the main camera. Other cameras didn't have the same issue. I'm not sure what temperature the new lights are, but it's far different than the old lights and adjustments need to be made.
To follow up what I posted above. I believe they caught the error during the men's game. If you watch the highlight clip, the first 7 seconds the wrong white balance setting is apparent with the blue/green tint, but afterwards is the correct one.
Nope, it's more important that people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s have no interruption in what they are used to for nostalgia value. Shooting and televising games on national TV are an afterthought.
