Lighting has been tweaked periodically since November and ESPN has learned how to adjust their cameras to the new settings. I hated it in November, but as it has been worked out, I'm beginning to really like the new lighting scheme in Hilton.

My dad texted me during the KU game and asked if I was in the crowd with a light saber. It was awesome in person, and I'm Guessing it made as big of an impression on ESPN.

I can sort of appreciate the aversion to change, but kind of feel like this is a replica of the thread when they installed the ribbon board - it's different, a select few are unhappy, and in 2 years no one will even remember the change.

I still find myself distracted occasionally by a sudden change in the ribbon board, such as going from very dark to very light. It makes me wonder if those "flashes" ever bother players. If it was Phog Allen Arena, there would probably be somebody paid to make the ribbon board flash while opponents are shooting free throws!

I get where you are coming from there as I'm a big fan of the new lights, but even I'll admit that back in November, they didn't look as good on TV as I thought they would. However, you are right that I think something has been done lately, as I've thought things have looked amazing on TV over the past few games. In fact, they look the best they've ever looked. The place has finally got rid of that ugly yellow hue that is apparent EVERYWHERE, including on TV, so apparently we've finally decided to leave the 1970s. Good for us.

Now, if we could only finally get rid of Jock Jams, we might finally be able to leave the early 1990s behind as well.

On opponent free throws or during every opponent possession?

Funny, I thought that "ugly yellow hue" created a rather nice warm feel. Not like the "sterile operating room white" that seems to have become so common.

Well, welcome to the 21st century bud. Last time I checked, all the negative-changers for the lighting have had the lights the EXACT same way for nearly the past 50 years to enjoy to your liking. Eventually, it is just time to move on. The rest of the world has for quite a while now. Look at the bright side though, if the "yellow hue" is what you love, I'm sure probably half the high school gyms at least are still rocking it for yah.

The thing I don't like about the ribbon boards is the reflection off of the court that is kinda distracting when watching on TV. That's especially true on some of the NBA arenas where they seem to continuing run wild stuff on there ribbon boards.

Anyway, glad they got the camera stuff set right now. That first game was pretty bad and had to adjust the TV...no need now. Of course the ability to dim the house does give us cool options like the individual light lasers etc.

From an atmosphere and match to the arenas cardinal seats and wood accents @Cycsk has a point. It was a better aesthetic match and "warmed" the arena and somewhat helped mitigate some of the "cool" gray of the concrete. And when Hilton first opened not everyone loved the cold aesthetic of it. Thank god for the warm seat colors and our warm school colors that help lively up the look.

Note, I am not usually a "warm" light fan and I always opt for cooler or whiter when I buy for my own house but it's a all white interior contemporary. I hold no nostalgia for the warm and weak sealed beam headlights once I got an Audi with HID Xenon lights.

The lights are fine. As far as the ribbon board goes, it is always advertising something when I wish to check the stats. So I mostly just ignore it now. If I wanted to watch a bunch of ads I would stay home and watch the game on TV.

Either I'm just finally getting used to it or maybe they have adjusted the lights some so it doesn't seem so dark and gloomy as it first did around the concourse area. I had to miss a couple games and watch on TV and one of the early season games it seemed that it got noticeably darker the further up the camera showed of the lower level. I still think the lower level could use a little more light (I sit 11 rows up in the balcony BTW) but like anything new I'm sure they are tweeking it from the feedback they are getting. I'm excited to see what new light patterns they can come up with for intros and pregame stuff. I thought maybe we'd see them drop the lights and go to just a spotlight on the starting lineup when I first saw them, I think that would still be kind of cool to see them try then go to the flashing light patterns once the lineup as been announced.

So should I move on or not?

Actually what you are describing is a very common thing they do with the ribbon board at other schools. WVU actually pointed it out first that UVA flashes their ribbon board only when opponents have the ball. After hearing it from WVU i started to pay attention and noticed it at other schools. Texas does it a lot too.

Is there anything that Huggins doesn't complain about?
