Lighting has been tweaked periodically since November and ESPN has learned how to adjust their cameras to the new settings. I hated it in November, but as it has been worked out, I'm beginning to really like the new lighting scheme in Hilton.
I can sort of appreciate the aversion to change, but kind of feel like this is a replica of the thread when they installed the ribbon board - it's different, a select few are unhappy, and in 2 years no one will even remember the change.

On opponent free throws or during every opponent possession?I still find myself distracted occasionally by a sudden change in the ribbon board, such as going from very dark to very light. It makes me wonder if those "flashes" ever bother players. If it was Phog Allen Arena, there would probably be somebody paid to make the ribbon board flash while opponents are shooting free throws!
I get where you are coming from there as I'm a big fan of the new lights, but even I'll admit that back in November, they didn't look as good on TV as I thought they would. However, you are right that I think something has been done lately, as I've thought things have looked amazing on TV over the past few games. In fact, they look the best they've ever looked. The place has finally got rid of that ugly yellow hue that is apparent EVERYWHERE, so apparently we've finally decided to leave the 1970s. Good for us.
Now, if we could only finally get rid of Jock Jams, we might finally be able to leave the early 1990s behind as well.
Man, I wish. Now, if we could only finally get rid of Jock Jams, we might finally be able to leave the early 1990s behind as well.
Funny, I thought that "ugly yellow hue" created a rather nice warm feel. Not like the "sterile operating room white" that seems to have become so common.
My dad texted me during the KU game and asked if I was in the crowd with a light saber. It was awesome in person, and I'm Guessing it made as big of an impression on ESPN.

Well, welcome to the 21st century bud. Last time I checked, all the negative-changers for the lighting have had the lights the EXACT same way for nearly the past 50 years to enjoy to your liking. Eventually, it is just time to move on.
From an atmosphere and match to the arenas cardinal seats and wood accents @Cycsk has a point. It was a better aesthetic match and "warmed" the arena and somewhat helped mitigate some of the "cool" gray of the concrete. And when Hilton first opened not everyone loved the cold aesthetic of it. Thank god for the warm seat colors and our warm school colors that help lively up the look.
Note, I am not usually a "warm" light fan and I always opt for cooler or whiter when I buy for my own house but it's a all white interior contemporary. I hold no nostalgia for the warm and weak sealed beam headlights once I got an Audi with HID Xenon lights.
Actually what you are describing is a very common thing they do with the ribbon board at other schools. WVU actually pointed it out first that UVA flashes their ribbon board only when opponents have the ball. After hearing it from WVU i started to pay attention and noticed it at other schools. Texas does it a lot too.I still find myself distracted occasionally by a sudden change in the ribbon board, such as going from very dark to very light. Is there anything that Huggins doesn't complain about?Actually what you are describing is a very common thing they do with the ribbon board at other schools.
