New Lighting in Hilton

Maybe it diffuses it some too? I figured it was something like that when I was at the game but couldn't really tell for sure.

Definitely an improvement from a viewing perspective both in person and on tv imo and the intro is much better now as well.

That is just a visor that tries to limit the amount of glare near where the fixtures are focused - that is, off the seats. It is not unlike the visor on a ball cap. It is not intended to reflect the light coming from the elements, however there will be a little bit reflected where you don't want it.

Idea: Let's get those lights to flash like there was a lightning strike. Include a lightning and thunder sound effects. Then fire up that siren. So many possibilities!

So, I've had some time to chill in Hilton and watch a few games. I didn't like it at first, but it has really grown on me. I still think it could negatively impact crowd involvement, but we will see. The Cincy game will be telling of how the new lighting impacts crowd involvement. So far, I think Hilton has been very quiet. I've noticed the PA announcer blocking out the lights so he can see. It didn't stop Gary from throwing in his patented "that foul was on..." for a bad call. Summary: I'm for it.

Just saw the new lights today. Are people seriously griping about them?????? I thought they were fantastic. Something tells me anyone who is griping about the new lights are the same type of people who still carry flip phones around.

I know people are resistant to change, but they did this for very good reasons.

The old lights are never coming back, no matter how much you miss them.

I was in the lower level on Sunday and it wasn't really that noticeable. Might be a bit darker in the upper deck. I think the real difference is on TV and I'm pretty sure that's the way they wanted it. The crowd might not be as visible, but the action on the floor will look better.

I was in my upper level seats today and couldn't tell the difference. Maybe it's horrible eyes, maybe it's old age, maybe it's just not that different up there, but I couldn't tell a difference.

New lights are awesome. Very inviting and big-time-arena-like for introductions, equally as bright on the floor as old lights before... But, we many, many less actual lights. They have to be saving an unreal amount of money on these things. From what I can tell, the lighting has not affected crowd interaction in any way. It definitely looks cool, though.

Probably not as "warm" of a look as the previous lights. But I'm guessing it looks better on TV. I think it was a good change.

The new lights are awesome. I don't see a difference in the darkness everyone is talking about and I sit 4 rows from the top of Hilton. With all the money we are saving, hopefully we can get a new score board like the one down at the Wells Fargo Arena (cant wait to see the thread of haters if that ever happened).

Definitely not a fan of the new lighting system. Sat in the parquet last night and it was significantly darker; almost making me sleepy in a way. Almost had same effect of dimming before a movie. Multiple times I was thinking what if the darkness effects "energizing" Hilton Magic. There is scientific research out there regarding light temperature effecting attitude and alertness etc.

Also as a shooter (we will shoot a lot of 3s with our line up) it has to mess with your depth perception. I noticed Matt Thomas seemed a bit off yesterday. Curious the transition of practicing in the Sukup facility then going into Hilton with different lighting atmosphere.

I recall in previous years we struggled shooting in the big arenas during postseason tourneys with depth perception and maybe due to the lighting. I wonder if this played a decision to mimic their lighting systems to prepare us for the bright lights/big stage. I've been to the large arenas we've played big12 and ncaa tournaments arenas (Pepsi CenterUnited center sprint center and Madison square garden) and all have similiar lighting.

You got it backwards. Most arenas dim the lights on the stands because darker venues actually help with shooting. shooting against a dark background lets shooters zone into the hoop so your point is invalid. I for one don't even notice that much of a difference and I've sat in the lower and top decks for multiply games.

I'm going to say this again. If these lights make you sleepy or have a hard time seeing in hilton. Please give your tickets to someone that will make noise and not ***** as much. This is getting ridiculous and you should stay home. The lights don't make that much difference.

I like them(sit in balcony), but there is definitely a noticable difference. I can really tell when I walk in and the inner concourse. It's quite a bit darker there and I assume in-turn the upper portions of the parquet.

The article I linked above said they will save somthing like 60%!!! That's an incredible amount of savings. I don't know how much the cost of electricity is relative to the cost of of the new lights, but can't imagine it would take more than a year or two for the project to pay itself off in energy cost savings.

Since this was bumped, I sat in the first couple rows for the women's game last weekend against K State and those lights are incredibly bright from that vantage point.
