How did we and Baylor get a seed, and Kansas not?

I can't believe UCLA got a seed....they didn't take one match against the top 4 teams in the PAC, not 1.

I don't think WI will be thrilled to have to play an in-state rival 1st round, who is pretty good, nor have to play us if we win 1st game on our home court.

UCLA is # 17 in the RPI, with Cal Poly of the Big West one spot ahead of them. The seed is no surprise since the Pac-12 is a much deeper conference than the Big West.

Kansas (shockingly) lost their last match to West Virginia in Lawrence on Saturday (5 sets). That was probably enough to make the committee say "um... no" to their hosting.
Wisconsin finished with an 11-9 Big 10 record, which is probably how they justified not having the Badgers host in spite of their ranking and RPI.

Happy that we were deemed good enough to host this year, sad that we'll be in Nashville this weekend and can't go to either round. :(

Didn't you have to miss some big match or WBB game last year doing some remodeling thing with your dad or something? Think we won. So this bodes well for our volleyball weekend. Invoking the Buster Absence clause! Cyclones advance. Book it. ;)

Sorry you can't go. Hate when things like this happen. Kind of like when ISU mens ball played in Milwaukee last year 40 minutes from my house, but I was in DC for meetings....

Well, ISU beat Kansas this year in a match we were planning on going to before a minor family emergency came up (forced us to miss the TCU football game, also). I said, "why don't we just skip Kansas, that way ISU will be sure to win." And they did. Happened last year with the Texas vball match, too (but not wbb). Guess there's something to it. :(

All in all, can't complain too much about the draw. The last week or so it seemed pretty likely either us or Wisconsin would be getting one of the last seedings. So given that we didn't play during the regular season, a second round matchup seemed pretty likely, just a matter of if it would be played here or there. In a perfect world both would have gotten seeded and we would have had a potential second round matchup with someone like Michigan St. or Louisville (both good teams but not quite at the level of Wisconsin).

One nice thing about being seeded, besides getting to host, is that you generally get a much more manageable first round matchup. There's a pretty significant difference in playing a team like Princeton instead of a team like Marquette.

Once again the seedings so heavily based upon RPI are a joke.
For example, RPI does not measure whether a match was played at home or on the road. It does not measure whether or not the win was close or not. HALF of the RPI ranking is determined by the opponents of the opponent you are currently playing. For many reasons, it's phony, used by people on a committee who aren't qualified to judge teams with their own eyes.

So, you are saying athletic directors/deputy directors with input from the AVCA are not qualified? Whether or not the RPI is valid I cannot disagree it needs work, but I think that is a pretty blanket statement for a group of highly qualified individuals from Florida State, Auburn, Maryland, Indiana, and Oregon among others. I'd say those are people that are capable of evaluating sports teams.
