More new coaches confirmed...

The whole point of bringing in a guy with previous head coaching experience was to get THAT experience. These are guys he knows well and works well with. That will lead to a much more united approach in the future. I am really happy he's getting the guys he wants right now.

It would somewhat negate CMCs head coaching experience if he had to have a learning curve with a new staff starting next season.

Yeah, Paul was tweeking coaches every year. Guess he needed to upgrade more and be on twitter.

Having guys that work together well and have had success together will be an upgrade over what we've had the last few years. Especially on offense.

Just having an offensive guy as a head coach will help the offense I think.

I'm guessing you're probably right.

Now the question is, is it the Toledo DC or someone else that still has a job and can't officially be on staff yet.

Most likely.

Matt has already shown the ability to adjust and flex all directions. Three days ago he was still Mr Toledo. He is moving Faster than Prohm.

from Footballscoop

Toledo linebackers coach Tyson Veidt and corners coach D.K. McDonald have joined Matt Campbell’s staff per a report from SI. We can confirm those hires and understand that Toledo director of high school relations John Kuceyeski is headed to Ames as well, per source.

I'm going to miss Coaches Burnham, Coach Linguist, Mitchell Moore, and others. I really liked having them be part of our program.

"The people, you can tell, make the university. That’s the thing that we are excited about the most. Working with the people.” Tom Manning

Am I the only one that is at least a little concerned here? I thought he would bring a couple of coaches, and keep Ayeni. But we continue to hear more and more names from his Toledo staff? Is it normal to essentially relocate a program?

Maybe this experiment works great. I don't know. At least you get a staff that is familiar with each other. On the flip side, what worked in the MAC and Toledo may not translate well here. Namely, recruiting the type of athlete we need to win.

Recruiting Analyst Tom Lemming says CMC will need to bring a coach on board who can recruit Texas well. If he doesn't, he says ISU will continue to "flounder". He says too many recruits from the east don't watch Big XII football.

I suppose there is a risk in bringing the 'old' staff along with the new HC. You aren't finding out if you could have gotten anyone 'better.' That's offset, IMHO, by being able to hit the ground running, evaluate the team members and recruits, establish recruiting responsibilities, etc. I do like the idea of a 'director of high school relations.' But given that Ohio has 4X the people of Iowa, are we going to expand the 'high school net' beyond our borders into Ill, MN, MO, NE, etc?

His 4 hour drive quote seems to say yes. That would put us in Southern Minnesota, Eastern Nebraska, Northern Missouri, Southern Wisconsin and Illinois.

I think there are some grad assistants, the video guy, and some water boys that he left there. However, he did take the ice cube trays from the freezer.

what kind of monster did we hire?

Missouri would include Kansas City and St. Louis. All of Illinois Most of Wisconsin Most of Minnesota. And I would imagine he would stretch those borders a bit.

Bringing Golesh, Illinois' recruiting coordinator, on as ISU's own pretty much tells you they are serious about the 4 hour strategy. He already knows most of the overlapping areas ISU will want to begin recruiting hard right away. Campbell himself can drag that line east to Ohio for awhile while fresh efforts are made to build up credibility in our more traditional recruiting spots in the south.

I still believe much of our defensive staff will have to be known quantities as recruiters from TX and OK. If CMC agrees and they get that done, this staff will be pretty darn good from a recruiting standpoint.

I agree with this line of thinking at this point. I'd rather they all know who they're dealing with and get right to work rather than the whole feeling-out process.

But I do hope that Campbell isn't so loyal to the point that he won't make changes when they're necessary, and keep guys that need to be let go. It seemed to me that Rhoads fell into that a little bit, being loyal almost to a fault. Time will tell.
