To be quite honest I would take either quarterback here Meyer might have a little more potential but Tate has a lot of heart. If I had to pick one i would probably take Meyer but I think both of us Iowa State and Iowa have capable quarterbacks that can lead our team to victory on nearly any saturday.

I expect Tate to have big senior year even with a new receiver corp. Unless he wants to play CFL or Arena that will be the end of his career. He is not only not a Brett Favre, he is unlikely to get more than a free agent look on an NFL team. There are a lot of great college qb's and Tate is certainly a good and potentially very good college qb, but most of those guys don't have a shot at the NFL.
If you had to judge on performance to date you would have to say the same thing for Brett. However, with Brett I just get the sense we have seen just the tip of the iceberg of what he can be. If he can develop an abilty to make a few more throws, and be more consistent with his accuracy (nfl is really a pinpoint game) he could have career on Sundays. He definitely will need to take his game up this year and I think he will. The difference between Brett and Tate is not only size, but you get the sense watching Tate that he is already peaking as a QB and has maximized his physical gifts. Meyer is much earlier on the development curve and while his future is far from a sure thing, has the potential to become much more than what he already is.
I would be happy to have either guy as qb of my college team, but time will tell on the NFL.

If it's a big game give me Tate every time. Blythe makes Meyer look good half the time. Tate is the much better QB at this time. Meyer still has a lot to learn. This is the year Meyer can prove his worth by playing against good good competition (Texas, TT, OU). Not to take anything away from his stats last year but our schedule wasn't that tough. This is the year we will learn alot about Brett.
after tates sophmore year, hawks were talking heisman next year with not very impressive stats. If our team can improve in the next two years, mainly runningback and offensive line, we should be talking about Meyer for Heisman. at least some hype. I imagine tate will have a great year this year, but most fans are talking about his second coming already, in their new fresman quarterback. I cant think of his name at this point, but i'm pretty sure he is a coaches son and ferentz himself is talking about splitting time with tate. wouldnt that piss you off

its just what your looking for would you take tate to to run the spread shotgun in ames id say no but would take meyer to run iowa offense maybe look what brad banks did he could run so if you look at that aspect id take meyer he'd fit more offenses than tate, but tate can doug flutie his way down the field so idk id jsut take meyer because hes better for what iowa state offense is.
Meyer has some serious potential to be playing in the NFL. These days it doesn't really matter if you won the National Championship or were on a BCS team in order to be picked high in the draft. Just look at Jay Cutler. It's really early to tell, but I think Meyer could be a first round pick if he keeps improving over the next 2 years.

Tate can throw one hell of a bullet pass, whereas Meyer's got the better lob pass/deep ball. Meyer's bullets are a bit too floaty at times.
Tate is mainly a pocket passer, but has surprising mobility when he has to. Meyer tends to wait too long before scrambling. Call me crazy, but I'm gonna give Tate a very slight edge in running with the ball. Unless it's an option, or designed run, then Meyer has the edge. But in terms of a play breaking down, and you have to move, I go Tate.

I think that both guys bring a lot to the table. You can make claims for either one being better. One thing that I do like about Tate is his fire. You can't fault the guy for being passionate about the game. He my not always express it in the most contructive ways, but there's no denying his commitment. (I'm not saying that Meyer doesn't have fire as well. Just focusing on Tate for the moment.) But, any time a player is that dedicated, you've got to give a little bit of respect. Perfect example of this is Bret Favre. I hate the Packers with a passion, but I give credit to Favre. I don't like him, but I recognize him as a great quarteback. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that Drew Tate compares with Brett Favre in the slightest. I think Tate will have an NFL career more comparable to Chuck Long. Meyer on the other hand is darn near a prototype NFL prospect. Not a traditional dropback passer, but a guy that can get out and run, good on the rollout, tough, nice touch on his passes. The NFL game is not about the deep ball anymore. At least not with most teams in the league. And I think Meyer is gong to fit in very nicely in those West Coast style offenses.
