Exactly as for the cables if you have a coax cable that was bought from the store or one you might of made yourself, have mediacom make you a new one. And if you have a poor quality patch cable maybe a loose end on one end, both of those can create packet lose which will really limit your speed.
So if you are not getting your speed as the previous poster stated then call and complain, and get a tech out there. If it is due to a high traffic node they will break it up and make a new one. They don't just say tough luck.
