McD will get another year after tonight's effort.

This game just goes to show how bad a coach Greg is... we beat a number 5 team on the road... have a the talent to do so, and yet ****** the year down our leg.

We are not as bad as our record... but had bad coaching and bad leadership.

This win proves what could have been.

I really don't know how else to explain it than what I've posted in the thread already. In the world of marketing, it doesn't matter whether JP had doubts or not (which it's irrational to think he didn't) - you don't show them. That's what my post said.

So then my question is, why back him last year midseason but not this year?

Sorry if i misread your posts, but I felt like you were trying to say he has always backed Mac.

He was already getting another year, but he did manage to make Pollard's job Monday a bit easier. Personally, I thought this is a great win but does nothing to negate 4 years of awful basketball. Good game, bad 4 years.

Or it shows that the man is a leader, and took a bunch of guys who have watched horrible circumstances beat against them, rallied them, taught them to be tough, got them to buy into every game for the last few weeks, and then led them to a victory tonight.

I'll say that it shows the coach I've continued to believe that we have, and makes me even prouder to have him here.

Only one who can really answer that is JP. My guess? Last year there wasn't the huge disappointment that there has been in this year - there was a lot less question in the mind of the fans already, so it wasn't as big of a blow to the image.

No problem - I think it would be foolish if he had just blindly supported Mac. As AD, his job is to question absolutely everything, and to try and cajole the best from all of his staff (whether or not that's been accomplished is another issue altogether, and everyone has their own opinions). Heck, he even has to question Fennelly in order to truly do his job right. I'm just talking about from a marketing standpoint - you just don't show weakness during such a hard season.

Erik... I will never question your loyalty. I may question your insanity... The coached created some of the circumstances this team has to overcome. Don't kid yourself. He rallied them for 1 win against a ranked team in 4 years. Not exactly a great stat.

I'm happy for this game, but saying I'm proud to have him here and he is the coach I want here is going wayyyyy to far. He still didn't show me anything tonight that makes me feel better for next year. Especially with a new roster.

I gave up on sanity a long time ago.
Let's be honest here, I'm not saying anything tonight based on one game that I haven't been saying all season long, with the exception that I'm saying it in the context of a victory.

Good management of the team for a change by Greg and we even hit some free throws and SC made threes that were the difference. Great win no matter how you look at it. Alot of things went right as everyone was oaring the right direction for a change.

Marketing wise you are right, but when the product stops selling and the customers are leaving, he will have to adjust - I don't expect to hear 100% backing, probably more words like "tough season, tough breaks, proud of the effort, never quit but significant improvement next season is expected, it has not gone the way we expected it would but I still believe Coach McD can get the job done." He has to get some separation from the hire before he can do the fire - thats Politics and Pollard appears to have them down just as good as the Marketing you mention.

I will say this about the current Mac situation. I thought tonight was a marvelously coached game. I really did. I cannot think of a thing to do differently. I will also say this. If these guys did not want to play for Mac or resented him at all, they do not play the way they did. Every one of those players was fighting to win this one. Teams who do not like their coach and do not buy in do not play like they did tonight. I think these guys respect the hell out of Mac and want to play for him.

Having said all of that, this win does not undo the previous failures. All this does is show that maybe the players do not dislike Mac or how he coaches. Maybe he changed something and it has finally taken hold, I don't know. I woudl like to see what we do in the tournament. I think beating a Texas and then maybe a Baylor would be huge for Mac to regain a little support. I realize certain people will not come back to him unless he wins the tourney, but I think it could show some sort of positive trend. I am not saying I am on the Mac wagon. I am just saying that tonight he showed he could do it and there were some guys on the team that will be here next year that stepped up. I am excited to see what happens. I don't have a prediction, I just see a team with a totally different attitude in the second half of the season. Hopefully we make a little run here and make some things interesting in the tourney.

I think this is likely very much the case. He's not going to blow sunshine or anything, as that's just foolish and makes him look like he has no grasp of the situation. It's all image.

Well... You are correct and I give you credit.

This. The players clearly have not given up, and finally learned how to win a close game. That, in my mind, has been the biggest downfall this season is making dumb mistakes at critical points.

If nothing else, this win gives us something to hang our hat on if Mac is still coach. We finally have something to give us a glimmer of hope that he can do this, whereas before we had nothing except close losses.

And he's good at getting his message across. I would think his presser on Monday will be very much like that.

But can you give me coupons?
