Anybody know about this kid. I guess he is an eight grader at Roosevelt and is the next big time recruit to come out of Iowa. Guess Illinois has offered him a scholarship already.

Don't kill me if this has already been asked or posted.

ISU will be a player for him. Very talented I guess. Barnes type potential.

I know of a 4th grader who is supposed to be the next Steve Young...I should let the staff know about him....

I hate how young kids are getting recruited now. He is not even in high school and he is already getting the pressure of being the next superstar to come from Iowa...

Let me know when he becomes at least a junior so that way I can compare him against some decent talent.

In many cases kids (definitely not all...see Wesley Staten) choose a coach/team that has been in communication with them the longest. Granted, offering schollies to 8th graders/freshmen can turn around and bite you, but I have no problem with taking a look at kids when they are young. Being Iowa State, sometimes the best chance we have at getting big time prospects is to have the longest and best relationship with recruits.

When has anyone been "turned around and bitten" by offering early? You don't have to honor any scholarship offer if the guy turns out sucking.

technically, I don't think the coach can actually offer a scholarship until they are a junior. I think that it is all indirect communication other than camps that coaches are allowed for basketball players when they are this young. I may be wrong though.

Is he related to Manute Bol or Longar Longar the former player from Oklahoma? I thought it was Longar Longar but I could be wrong.

Both, he's a freshman at Roosevelt....Luol deng and Longar Longar are both first cousins, and Bol is Pete's uncles.

I saw Manute Bol at a bar once... freakishly tall and skinny.

Think back to when you were in 8th grade. You had no clue which end was up, let alone picking a college. Then thick back to how hard choosing a college was without pressures from everyone else. Let these kids enjoy at least the first couple years of high school. Recruiting sounds like it would be fun, but the pressure is way to high.

Luol deng and Longar Longar are both first cousins

HA HA HA HA HA no they aren't. Longar grew up (by grew up, i mean like 8th grade to 12th) in my hometown. I have friends who are *GOOD* friends with him. The closest other basketball relative to him is his brother who played or still plays at Arkansas-Fort Smith (Arol Longar).

They aren't cousins or even related. Biggest BS I've heard all day.

Here's a quote from a long time ago too:

Longar has been in the United States for the last four years. He came to the country from Sudan, the same nation Luol Deng calls home. "I know him. We lived in the same country but not close to each other. His older brother and my older brother used to play on the same team." Longar said
the two talk regularly.

Somewhere in the U.S.
When I worked in LA at the Sports Arena and Coliseum, I got to stand next to Bol once before an NBA game. I have never felt so short in my life......and I stand 6' 2".

So now we get four years of Peter Jok threads..

I've seen the kid play last year on a Roosevelt AAU team.. took the Attack team to the house on his own (kind of). Could just drive it and lay it up whenever he wants. Still to early for me to look at him though.

My brother coached him. He picked him up and took him to practice. Kid did not even have a coat. He has an older brother that plays too.

Hasnt he been to a few ISU home games this year?!?

Anyone know how tall he is supposed to end up? He's like 6'2" or at least reported so far.

Tell your brother to give him an ISU coat.
Better yet...have 'someone' sell him an ISU coat for a nickel.
We dont need any recruiting violations.

Actually, Peter is related, maybe I got the first cousin part wrong, but they're definitely cousins.
