Manute Bol Nephew

Anybody know about this kid. I guess he is an eight grader at Roosevelt and is the next big time recruit to come out of Iowa. Guess Illinois has offered him a scholarship already.

I hate how young kids are getting recruited now. He is not even in high school and he is already getting the pressure of being the next superstar to come from Iowa...

Let me know when he becomes at least a junior so that way I can compare him against some decent talent.

Granted, offering schollies to 8th graders/freshmen can turn around and bite you, but I have no problem with taking a look at kids when they are young. Being Iowa State, sometimes the best chance we have at getting big time prospects is to have the longest and best relationship with recruits.

When has anyone been "turned around and bitten" by offering early? You don't have to honor any scholarship offer if the guy turns out sucking.

technically, I don't think the coach can actually offer a scholarship until they are a junior. I think that it is all indirect communication other than camps that coaches are allowed for basketball players when they are this young. I may be wrong though.

Is he related to Manute Bol or Longar Longar the former player from Oklahoma? I thought it was Longar Longar but I could be wrong.

Both, he's a freshman at Roosevelt....Luol deng and Longar Longar are both first cousins, and Bol is Pete's uncles.

Think back to when you were in 8th grade. You had no clue which end was up, let alone picking a college. Then thick back to how hard choosing a college was without pressures from everyone else. Let these kids enjoy at least the first couple years of high school. Recruiting sounds like it would be fun, but the pressure is way to high.

Luol deng and Longar Longar are both first cousins

HA HA HA HA HA no they aren't. Longar grew up (by grew up, i mean like 8th grade to 12th) in my hometown. I have friends who are *GOOD* friends with him. The closest other basketball relative to him is his brother who played or still plays at Arkansas-Fort Smith (Arol Longar).

They aren't cousins or even related. Biggest BS I've heard all day.

I've seen the kid play last year on a Roosevelt AAU team.. took the Attack team to the house on his own (kind of). Could just drive it and lay it up whenever he wants. Still to early for me to look at him though.
