I was the one who initially disagreed with the contention that Runza was 6.022 x 10^23 times better (or something like that) than Maidrite. I lived in Lincoln for a time and had a Runza once or twice. It was okay but nothing to write home about. I am not a person that has to have a Maidrite either, but will eat one when opportunity presents itself. I don't think one is orders of magnitude better than the other in either direction.

I agree with 3true. I've never looked at a hamburger and thought "you know what, cover that in some **** and crumble it up so I can spend 20 minutes trying to not spill it all over the place."

Mom made a sloppy joe in that was similar - not sure about the vinegar. Dad's "mom isn't here to cook" sloppy joe was browned ground beef and a can of Campbell's alphabet soup mixed it. It became a college staple...

The best part about White Castle is it doesn't try to pretend to be something that it's not - it's a greasy *** yet delicious hamburger that slides down to your stomach, unlike a Maid Rite, which pretends to not be a greasy *** hamburger that slides down your stomach and instead is greasy *** hamburger crumbles that slides down the front of your shirt on the way to your lap.

I thought there was a White Castle on Douglas in Des Moines as recently as 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure the building has been demolished for a couple years though.
