Made Rite Sandwiches

Never forget.

Best trophy ever! Its crap that they took it away.

my mom used to make something that was hamburger with ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and some other spices - so some kind of sloppy joe but they called it barbeque. I was the only one in a family of 6 who hated them.

I agree with 3true. I've never looked at a hamburger and thought "you know what, cover that in some **** and crumble it up so I can spend 20 minutes trying to not spill it all over the place."

You're from Illinois, so you don't get to have an opinion on this.

Grew up in Dubuque - never even heard of Maid Rite til I moved to Des Moines as an adult.

Our sloppy joes was more of a tomato like, man-wich sauce. I believe true Maid Rites are simply loose meat sandwiches with some sort of seasoning, aren't they?

There's been a Maid-Rite in Dubuque for like 20+ years, man. Currently on the corner of JFK and Pennsylvania.

If you ever thought "I want to eat a hamburger but I want the meat to all fall out of the bun and onto my lap" then you're wanting a Maid Rite.

Here's my family's Maid-Rite recipe:

-take one hamburger, the blander the better
-scrape off everything that gives it flavor (tomatoes, onions, etc.)
-remove the patty, place it into a bowl, break the patty into as many tiny pieces as possible, and set aside
-dip the bun into a cup of water to make it soggy
-return the crumbled hamburger patty to the bun
-serve with a side of loneliness or crippling shame

So much mobile like for these two posts.

Not quite the same as In and Out Burger

Prompted me to look up if Tastee Inn & Out was older than In-N-Out…not quite. Tastee started in '55. In-N-Out in '48.

I moved to LA a few months ago. In-N-Out drive through lines seem responsible for at least 50% of non highway traffic jams I've ran into, no jimlad. You could start a side business going inside and placing orders for people and bringing it out to their car.

I actually don't like Taverns/Tastees/Maid Rites or whatever, but I like going there for onion chips and a shake.

If White Castle moved to Iowa at least 50% of the people that love it now would hate it.

I worked next door to a white castle for 8 years. Zero trips. Nasty. Somehow a lower caliber of food than McDs. I can't imagine how there are so many in Chicago with Portillos and all other sorts of Vienna Beef dog/burger places everywhere.

I grew up in Iowa but currently live in Minnesota. My wife who is from here has never heard of Made Rite Sandwhiches. I need someone to dust off my memory banks. In grade/junior high I remember Made Rites being on the menu. Were these a glorified Sloppy Joes, or were they a different sandwhich? My wife is making Sloppy Joe's tonight and I told her you mean Made Rite?

I don't know who better to verify but you guys:spinny:

a Maid Rite is a seasoned, loose meat (scrambled hamburger) sandwich with no sauce added like a Sloppy Joe. The restaurant chain's recipe for seasoning the meat is what made the sandwich so popular in the past. It's a change from the usual burger and fries fare.

Imagine how awesome that rejected football trophy would be if the farmer's basket was filled with Maid-rites!

So you're telling me salt blew people away?
