I grew up in Iowa but currently live in Minnesota. My wife who is from here has never heard of Made Rite Sandwhiches. I need someone to dust off my memory banks. In grade/junior high I remember Made Rites being on the menu. Were these a glorified Sloppy Joes, or were they a different sandwhich? My wife is making Sloppy Joe's tonight and I told her you mean Made Rite?

I don't know who better to verify but you guys:spinny:

Grew up in Dubuque - never even heard of Maid Rite til I moved to Des Moines as an adult.

Our sloppy joes was more of a tomato like, man-wich sauce. I believe true Maid Rites are simply loose meat sandwiches with some sort of seasoning, aren't they?

Loose meat, salt, mustard, pickle (onions optional) is the only true Maid Rite. And no damn ketchup or french fries.

If you will refer to the "mustard is the best condiment" thread from ought 8 we determined that mustard is crap and doesn't belong on maid rites or anything. Uncondiment Mustard! However ketchup, pickles, and onions are good on it, not like a sloppy joe.

2 different things.

Correct. From the Maid Rite website:

Our one and only Maid-Rite sandwich is a special cut and grind of low in calories 100 percent fresh ground beef, made to order with our secret combination of delicious seasoning. It is cooked to perfection, and then served on a warm bun

The biggest difference is the lack of tomato sauce. And while a sloppy joe is good, a Maid Rite is awesome.

Also, I am concerned about the OPs claim to be a native Iowan while then going on to misspell Maid Rite and confuse it with a sloppy joe.
