*****LEATH VEISHEA PRESSER LIVE STREAM*****

What's really getting me right now is that on another thread, it turns out David Irving was photographed holding up a stop sign. Some people are saying "no big deal". The heck it isn't...

If it's big enough that this un-sponsored activity cancels VEISHEA for all of the other students, then the people involved...ALL of them...need to be held accountable.

Absolutely. He's right there in one of the main centers of activity holding the sign.
He may or may not have ripped it up, but he's glad to have his sign.
He's free to get out.

Yes, which means running some laps.

Yep. VEISHEA's reputation is as a party first. Cherry pies, parades, and exhibitions take a back seat to it. The party is what brings people to town.

For students yes, but a ton of people come for the family and central campus stuff on the weekend.

Hell I just turned 30 and last year my gf and I really enjoyed all the non-party stuff a lot. (we did party too, but ya know).

So do you advocate punishing the students who were not involved by taking away all of the results of their hard work, but you don't advocate punishing the students who were involved in the mob last night?
Unfortunately for the students, welcome to the real world. You excel at your job and have done an excellent job keeping your side of the business afloat but there are other people who are worthless at their jobs. Your company goes out of business. Did you do anything to deserve losing your job like the people who were worthless? Nope, but no one said life was fair.

Nope, I would not have canceled it like Leath and Co did, but I could not care less about all that hard work.

What does it mean to be involved in a mob? I bet there are hundreds of students that worked very hard for Veishea that were at some level involved in facilitating mob behavior. The mobs do not happen without a systemic failure on part of the entire campus and campus leadership. Leath sounded shocked it could happen on a Tuesday night.

The thing about mobs- there are a few doing minor criminal behavior, and a lot of people doing nothing more than your typical weekend behavior. Aggregated together it has a big impact, but individually it barely moves the dial. I'd be more tempted to kick out those students who get DUIs.

You don't get what I'm saying. He's apparently okay with the workers being punished, but not the perpetrators. Life isn't always fair, but the punishment currently meted out solves nothing.

If you really think the perpetrators are going to come out ahead here, you're crazy. Any attempts to get rowdy will be very short-lived. Everybody's week is going to suck.

I say keep up the violence, riots , stupid police, pretty much everything that sums up viesha. Way to go iowa state you made national news.

Okay, I misread your comments.

However, the thing is, the other students there, the ones NOT tearing down signs, are just as guilty, IMO. Not only did they fail to stop the criminal behavior, they egged it on by chanting, laughing, filming. David Irving was in possession of what was essentially stolen property. He might not have torn it down, but based on the smile on his face, he was enjoying the fact that it happened, as were other students around. I said ALL of the students involved should be held accountable. If that includes students who worked on VEISHEA displays or events, I hold them just as accountable as David Irving.

According to my friends up here lawn drinking, cops have stopped by to remind them to be safe, smart and responsible. That they want them to have fun but last night can't happen again.

the Ames and Isu police have done a great job the past 24 hours

So what exactly are you worried about? That your drinking will be curtailed. Pardon me if I'm less than sympathetic. I'm more sympathetic to the students I know whose club budget comes from food sales, and the international students that have been talking about their menus for Saturday for months, and the students who have built amazing displays to show off their majors.
