Just thought I'd get everyone's opinion on the battle in KC tomorrow night. I've been able to see a lot more of KU than Mizzou and think I have a better understanding of what they're going to do.
The amazing thing about KU is that other than Reesing, they don't have a star on offense. All four of their receivers, their tight end (Fine) and their two running backs are all dependable. The thing that makes their offense hum is their great offensive line play. Their defensive line has played more consistent than their other groups. Their linebacking corps is a little slow and tries for the kill shot instead of making the consistent tackles. Talib gets the credit in the secondary, but he tries to make a play every time he's thrown to and is susceptible to the deep pass (Nelson in the KSU game). All of the announcers and ESPN guys say that they haven't been tested and that's true, except that they keep on blowing out teams week after week, so I think that argument doesn't hold up that well.
Mizzou seems to be getting better and better. Everyone knows how good Daniels and the tight ends are, but Mizzou has become a lot more dangerous with the emergence of Macklin and their backs. Now they are a balanced offense and can strike every down. I don't know that much about their defense, but against Illinois, they were burned with a dual threat quarterback (of course Juice Williams can't hit the broad side of a barn door).
That's why I think the game will come down to how good Reesing's ankle holds up. If it's close to a 100%, KU's offense is nearly unstoppable, while I think KU will be able to put pressure off their front four and drop everyone else for pass coverage. Daniel can sometimes trust in his arm a little too much and I think he'll try once too often and Ku will go on to the Big 12 championship game in San Antonio next week, 45-38.
Should be a great game, I only wish it was ISU instead.
