I guess I'm in the minority here, but after watching the TTech GoPro video it seems pretty obvious to me that something else was said after "you piece of crap." The microphones on those are likely pretty directional and you can make out the words when it is facing towards the stands but right afterwards it is moved to the side then back towards the court. What was said afterwards I don't know, it may or may not have been a racial epithet, but I don't buy that Smart went from relatively calm to that level of rage from only "you piece of crap."
Doesn't mean that Smart didn't lie, but certainly doesn't prove that he did to me.
so, has everyone who called all of us that didnt blindly blame Orr racist sympathizers eaten crow yet? looking at you ISUfan22
This is the problem with race baiting. Now Orr must prove a negative? Good lord. Video/audio is exactly as Orr stated. Interviews by TTU turned up no one who heard such a racial slur. Teammate Forte didn't even give a glance of shock by such a racial slur...and you're not convinced. Thank God you're not a judge or on a jury!
Prior to this incident, I was thinking a modified "Left-Right" chant....just chant "Flop" for every step he takes...all game long (actual basketball action aside). Imagine the petulant little effer dealing with that.
I figured on a response like this and hesitated to post. To follow on your judge/jury analogy if this were a trial against Smart for slandering Orr by calling him a racist that video should not be enough to convict Smart (for the reason I already stated). Similarly if this was a trial against Orr for using racial hate speech the video would obviously do nothing to prove he did and could be used as defense evidence but I wouldn't find it very convincing or conclusive (again for the reason I stated). My point was simply that the video doesn't "prove" anything to me (that Smart lied or that Orr used a racial epithet). And I agree with you that it shouldn't be assumed Orr is a racist unless some conclusive evidence shows otherwise. As an aside, it is pretty obvious Orr knew that video was being released when he wrote his statement so the fact that they match should be of no great surprise.
It's very nice of you to act like a lawyer, but none of this matters. The only thing in the world in court that will excuse physical violence is proof of self defense. In this case, it wasn't self defense, and there's no proof of a racial slur. Whether you like it or not, the country still protect speech that isn't a threat. While it's wrong to insult someone, calling them a name doesn't equate to self defense. There's a reason the KKK can publicly hold rallies and have no crimes against them. They are very careful to not make threats and not participate in physical violence.
In the end, there's a piece of evidence that someone said "piece of crap" and there's nothing else. Furthermore, if you actually watch the video, you can see Smart turn around less than a second after you hear "You piece of crap!" It doesn't *prove* anything, but it's evidence that goes against Smart's word.
Smart kicked the s*** out of a chair last week. I wonder what racial slur it used.
I am just shocked, SHOCKED, that someone with the integrity of Marcus Smart would lie to justify his bad behavior! Almost as shocked as I was at how quickly half of this board was ready to call Orr a racist based on nothing but internet rumors!
Is calling a player a "piece of crap" nice? No. Is it a big deal? No.
Also fails to admit the corroborative evidence of witnesses that never heard the slur including his teammate. Plus assumes Orr made his statement in conjunction with the video evidence and not Orr made his statement and TTU then substantiated it. It's clear Smart lied, but some people actually think TTU doctored the tape.
Kinda telling there was no mention of this "racial slur" at the OSU presser this afternoon, isn't it? Seems odd Smart doesn't claim it anymore, doesn't it?I figured on a response like this and hesitated to post. Whoa....did I miss something? Is there video that ALL he said was that he was a piece of crap?
I mean some lip reading he may have said tht......but is there something showing what he said BEFORE that?
If not ....I'm not sure what the Marcus smart bashers are celebrating.

There is a huge difference between between what a 50+ year old fan in the stands did - flipping the bird to a student athlete, via his forearm, because he made a great play against his team, and what 20 year old student athletes did during in the heat of game while being taunted by opposing fans and later issued apologies.
The former is abject stupidity and fan behavior that is the grounds to be thrown out of Hilton, the latter is a momentary lapse of judgement by young college students.
Uhhhh....I'm sorry is this the video Marcus smart bashers are using to prove something? Please tell me it's not.
