Little known fact about Mike Riley. He is from Corvallis, but he played for Alabama in the early '70s during the Bryant Era. He was the leading candidate in one of the coaching searches (I don't remember which one) after Dubose was fired in 2000 and before Saban was hired in 2007 - Alabama really, really wanted Mike Riley (He was an NFL assistant at the time), but he couldn't make up his mind. So, the Tide turned to somebody else. Mike Riley could have been the HC @ Alabama if he wanted it! Unbelievable.

He was a pretty successful coach at the time and an alum, it's really not that unbelievable.

Riley is not a bad coach. He did well at Oregon State considering their history.

Nebraska is just a death trap.

I agree. It would have been a solid hire at the time. I meant unbelievable that he turned down the job and how far he has fallen as a Coaching afterthought.
